To me, Casual fans seem more concerned with the hype than the actual fight imo. It’s something I’ve thought for awhile( Iam no expert myself like). I been raving all week about the berchelt v roman fight last weekend, and tried to get mates to watch it. Because they never heard of them or seen any hype for the fight cba to watch it. These same guys had no problem watching fury’s 2 comeback fights and hugie fury’s latest cuddle fest. Thoughts guys?. Respect.
Yeah, pretty much, that goes for casual fans of most sports. Even in sports entertainment, like I do with boxing I do with other things, I would try my best to get people to watch Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero back in the 90's because they were excellent workers, and all that they wanted to watch was Hulk Hogan.
As a casual fan of UFC, I can personally attest to that. I don't give a damn about anyone but the name fighters.
You can’t be a true ufc fan you didn’t mention Connor lmao. I would watch ufc if they did stand up specials, were they have to stand up, go to ground and dq. Then I’d watch it, abit like original k1.
Indeed that's true. Casuals need to be spoonfed the "This fight matters and is important" for them to have any interest in watching it.
I remember going to a boxing party and all the casuals wanted to watch Roy Jones fight Anthony Hanshaw garbage fight when on the other channel was the Paul Williams and Antonio Margarito match. There was no way I was going to miss the Williams / Margarito fight so I was able to convince them to watch picture and picture with the larger square on Williams and the sound on Jones.
I’m a casual and really do struggle with those lesser known guys. I made a post last week though about Tank DAvis and a friend of mine who’s another casual happened to see Tank when he fought in the U.K. and really wanted to see him again but since then he missed weight twice and had the belt stripped and been inactive ever since so some of these guys don’t make it easy for folk to remember em.
I always thought that saying was a bit unrealistic, more hurt and not get hurt or as hurt seems more in keeping lol
I agree on that it’s definatly unrealistic almost impossible infact, but it’s those rare moments in fights when a fighter makes it seem possible that set boxing apart from other combat sports.
Ahh, the great days of American wrestling. Vince McMahon killed his competition thats why it declined so fast. Never kill your competitors totally, so fans can have a choice to compare. UFC almost did it but Bellator and others held on.
