He have faced all the top-dogs in the division. Jones isn't even a huge LHW, he doesn't have a do or die weight cut like so many others. He is a natural LHW. Still undefeated - and he have faced Gus and double champ Cormier twice.
Gus is taller than Jones. Rockhold and Adesanya are both middleweight, similar height to Jones. James Vick is almost same height aswell, he is a 155 pounder. How are Jones at fault being built as he is?
Look at Jones on stage against any opponent not named Gus at a weigh in and he is miles bigger than his opponents. He’s a HW, deal with it.
So Gus is a heavyweight aswell? - and Cormier is a featherweight? Completely different body types. Jones is a LHW, deal with it.
I think Jones beats him legitimately this time. If Gus would've been active he'd have a better chance to take advantage of Jones' rust but he's actually been out of action longer than Jones. The striking advantage he enjoyed in their first fight has been narrowed too imo.
Not only that. Jones will probably be on the gear again. Rules don't apply to him. If he gets caught again he'll get another slap on the wrist suspension.
Spot on, not a bad way to earn a living. earn a few million every couple of years for a 6 week training camp and a fight, serve another suspension and do the same again until he is 40 and get away with it.
I wouldn't be overly surprised if Jones pops again - if he does, prop gets banned 4 years to life. On the fight. I can see it being as close as the first one. I feel like Gus is the worst match up for Jones, good reach and good boxing. Jones' biggest holes in the game is his boxing and his boxing-defense, we've seen even Cormier connect almost at will with his punches, Gus should be able to out-punch Jones, but when you mix in Jones' complete striking range - kicks, elbows etc., i see at as an almost even fight.
Maybe because Rumble Johnson tore him a new ******* that was big enough for Cormier to walk through. He beat the **** out of the Swede. All time greats don't get whooped like that in their prime.
Gus is nowhere near GOAT status. The losses to Rumble and Davis aren't even the biggest problem for Gus. The biggest problem is that he went through so many long layoffs where he was on the shelf. First it was when he took a break saying he was burnt out before and after beating Jan Blankowitz (sp?). Then he came back and looked better than ever against Glover but then suffered one injury after another. These layoffs have cost him probably half a dozen good wins. The fact that he's friends/teammates with half of his division means that he has really limited options for opponents when he isn't burnt out/injured.
