He was absolutely Elite, beating Huck comfortably, beating Perez, giving Usyk a hell of a fight, now he has looked very very poor in his last two bouts and got a massive gift vs Gevor, just watched the fight replay, it was a massive robbery.
Usyk took his soul. No kiddin, i don't know. He looked really bad vs Deslaurier and he obviously had a damn close fight with Gevor last night. Gevor isn't bad, but he is european level, normally one level below Briedis. I think Glowacki has a good shot to win the whole thing.
He was elite? He lost to Gevor , looked bad against Deslaurier and looked horrendous against Mike Perez. He should have been deducted multiple points against Perez. Nice guy , good fighter , but way overrated. I never believed he was any better than Tony Bellew tbh and he's a few levels bellow guys like Lebadev and Cunningham so i don't understand how he can be elite.
I just floated a theory in another thread I think is worth repeating: there are rare birds who do better at heavy than cruiser. Briedis may have the power to tee-off and hurt immobile dinosaurs like Charr, but not necessarily the skill to keep up with faster cruisers. Not a bad fighter, just one of the few that is fighting too low. By the way, I thought Usyk comfortably won 8 rounds, so I disagree a bit that he did all that well.
After the fight Briedis said that he had injured his right hand during training, and it didn't completely healed. I'm not sure if it's true or some kind of an excuse.
Yeah. Eddie Chambers at his peak was a legit top 5 HW. Then he moved down to CW and failed spectacularly. I think was was well past his own prime at that point, but still.
Probably felt demoralized after losing to Usyk. Usyk takes peoples Souls and puts it in a little leather Cossack Container.
I agree. look at his record: best wins? charr and huck...….and lets face it, charr sucks and huck was badly faded. okay, throw in his "win" over perez……..but perez was neither a proven Cruiser, nor was that a convincing win. so it´s not like he was some legendary Champion. Maybe his limitations simply got exposed.
The guy he fought was incredibily tricky and awkward. Basically like a Herrera type. People said he was robbed and should be undefeated, I believe it, but since his style is so spoiling judges didn't award him the win. At the end of the day this is pro boxing. With the style he has, unless you're a massive draw, or you clearly win, you're going to get shafted. No I'm not saying it's the right thing, but that's just how it is. And if you have an issue with it, go support those spoiling type styles that are incredibily ugly to watch and boring.
He's clearly carrying an injury on his right side. I noticed something was off with the way he was throwing his right hand as early as round 2 and IIRC BJ Flores also mentioned it at one point during the fight too. He was very reluctant to let it go and I noticed him hesitate and pull back from throwing it a number of times during the fight too. Noel is a big, long awkward and skilful CW but it was more down to the way Briedis was throwing his right that was making him miss than anything Noel was doing. I posted this after round 2 Briedis has an excellent right hand This content is protected
The way he was throwing that right hand looked like he had no clue what he was doing yesterday. Maybe he was trying to throw his punch over his opponent's left hand, but I don't think I saw him throw one straight right.
Yeah. Watch the start of his KO HL vid I posted and look at those vicious right hand bombs he was throwing. He wasn't throwing many combos last night either. Something is definitely not right with him.
