Bait threads like this are so fricken stupid. Obviously Ali wins but I'll vote Usyk KO because this thread is BS.
No. Usyk is world class as of now. Ali is world class for all-time. The greatest (or second greatest) HW ever. Tony Bellew was a decent scalp, but Tony is not an ATG. Liston was. And Ali embarrassed Liston in his 20th fight, worse than Usyk embarrassed Bellew in his 16th. Usyk and Ali share the same birthday 45 years apart. By the time Ali was Usyk's age he'd already captured the HW championship and established an ATG legacy with wins over two top ten ATGs, and within a year would add another, Foreman. Usyk has achieved much and I'm a fan, but I watched Ali in the sixties and many times since on tape. Peak Ali scores at worst, a shutout UD over Usyk, or more likely stops him.
Looking at that poll, 5 imbeciles, yes 5 of them actually voted that Usyk stops Ali. Yes the man who took the blows of Foreman, Liston, Shavers, Frazier, Lyle, Bonavena, Patterson, Quarry, Norton and Foster, and was never stopped, is going to be stopped by the relatively light hitting Usyk,
Oh come on now. I'm not sure Usyk beats Frazier, Foreman, Norton or even Shavers, yet alone Ali, so can we at least wait to watch him compete at heavyweight and come away with a couple of wins against credible potential future HoF opponents before we even have this discussion? I'm not saying this to take away from Usyk's achievements but Usyk has beat Bellew, Gassiev and who else? Now look at Ali's record and ponder why this comparison is so premature it seems like an obvious troll.
I mean he came from behind to defeat Tony Bela couple weeks away from his 36 birthday! You have to concede that he would have to be considered the greatest fighter of all time.
Ali never faced anyone like Usyk, and vice versa, neither of us know how it would turn out, but I would make an argument that Usyk is just as good as Norton, and overall more skilled, and if Norton could land flush on Ali as much he did in their fights, then the defensively far more sound Usyk, with his superior stamina could as well, and make Ali miss far more often. Its no sure thing either way.
No, but he faced and defeated many who were a whole lot better. Frazier, Liston, Foreman, Patterson, Terrell etc.... That part would be far more telling. Usyk wouldn't have a clue where to begin with the Ali of Liston, Williams, Patterson, Terrell and Folley. Too much speed, and far too evasive. That Ali would toy with both Bellew and Usyk on the same evening. We don't know, true, but at least one of us could make a pretty safe educated guess. You could put forth the argument...if you don't mind being laughed at. That may be shown to be the case someday, but until he has a resume that includes the likes of Jerry Quarry, Jimmy Young and a near prime Ali, that is just idle (and far-fetched) speculation. Usyk is neither sounder defensively than Norton nor of greater stamina. He went 15 rounds with Ali, Holmes and Young, besting two of them over that distance, and arguably all three. No it isn't, but picking prime Ali over current Usyk is as sure as you're going too get with this kind of hypothetical.
I find it Hilarious the offended come out in droves when Alis fantasy matches are in question ,yet the current suspects grind down their OWN era of fighters as if they shouldn't be boxing? lol A little reality check on this match up ,Usyk is a southpaw....go look at ALL Ali southpaw fights even the Mildenberger one where he doubles Ali over a body shot late in the fight and despite WAY biased commentary is a very competitive fight. Keep in mind Mildenberger is a fraction of what Usyk is now. Why I would favor a Usyk ? well he's 6'3 himself and like ali likes to outpointing and frustrate guys, his weakness is also a direct jab and aggressive approach neither was Ali. Usyk also like ali has a great work rate with better accuracy. The majority same guys saying Usyk lacks power at HW are the same guys labeling ali unbeatable ,I bet anything on it....lol Usyk to me is a modern assassin ,one that will however fall short and some ways like Ali would. they both share something in common beyond determination and confidence both are very good adapters , Usyk moreso has his work cut out for him in todays era ,Ali wasn't eyeing in on a 6'6 250 pound olympic champion and one still improving. Usyk for me in a UD ,to active and fundamentally sound full of his surroundings ,he would be able to turn on those multiple look jabs and operate from there using awkaward angles. one thing about ali he looked exceptional with guys just standing there, no one is going to be in awe anymore of a guy running around or volleying out of range bc he has a reach advantage or is more athletic..but this isn't Usyk and when doing comparisons you really have to more or less bring the fight to modern days bc times change not vice versa .
Did you say "reality check?" The fight you mention was a one-sided beatdown of a game, coming-forward opponent. The punch you mentioned was a minute into a round (10) that could have been scored 10-8 to Ali, even without the subsequent knockdown. Yes, Ali was in real trouble there. He only KD'd his man three times, made his face look like a used panty-liner, and took a nearly twelve rounds to stop him. This content is protected No. I am a fan of Usyk and I hope he does well when he moves up, but he hasn't got any resume yet at HW. Mildenberger was a top five HW when he faced Ali with a 49-2 record.
