Tony Bellew is getting tons of praise for his performance the other night yet all he really did was hustle some early rounds when Usyk was still in 1st/2nd gear. It was the same dynamic as the Hunter fight only he made it to the final bell albeit barely,

In both cases Usyk changes the fights flow by altering the trajectory of a punch that totally eliminates his opponents early success. Usyk then procedes to advance gears through punch volume and tactical ring pressure. Of course Usyk's parrot critics are still saying the same things they invented in the pea brains after both bouts but on this occasion Bellew gets heralded while Hunter was written off as a bum.

Odd because Hunter would have beaten Bellew and performed better against Usyk despite what those disgusting, pathetic, partisan trash hometown cards read, which is another rant for another time I am afraid.

Before the fight there was a pretty vocal group here talking about to get ready for a giant one sided mismatch. I even saw this fight compared to Mayweather vs Gatti. And that sentiment was floating around the boxing world (that Bellew was going to get dominated)

Now, the fact is, that many people had Bellew up after 7 rounds, and even most of those who didnt have Bellew ahead, had it very close.

Despite the subsequent attempts to excuse, explain, and spin it, with the idea that Bellew had nothing to do with that, the reason people are giving praise to Bellew is the manner in which he fought, and, in what was largely supposed to be him getting a one sided boxing lesson, he managed to make it interesting, and instead of shelling up when he was starting to fall apart, decided to go out on his shield, in his last fight.

I cant really understand why someone would watch that fight, and then feel the need to downplay Bellews performance or the people who are praising it. Seems to me theres a few Usyk fans that dont want Bellew to receive praise or credit for the fight, because there would be an underlying admition there that he wasnt as easy for Usyk as everyone thought he would be, and maybe... just maybe, Usyk actually lost rounds to him not because Usyk had some master plan of winning by a come from behind stoppage in his opponents backyard, and well... we cant have that now can we.

Dillian Whyte's brother Dean thought they were going to rob Usyk if it went to the cards

Oh for sure, hence the rematch clause like Usyk should ever need a rematch clause.Hearn was gonna rob his new signing

I think Usyk requested the rematch clause actually, which IIRC is the only stipulation he asked for and it was wise of him to do so seeing as he wasn't just putting his world title on the line in Bellew's country where everything was stacked in Bellew's favour and he could easily get robbed, but he was putting all 4 of them the line. Not too many world champions will take their world titles on the road and defend them in their opponent's backyards, but how many unified ones are willing to do so, let alone do so numerous times? But make no mistake about who Hearn wanted to win last night, regardless if it was Bellew's final fight and Usyk could potentially go on to become one of the jewel's in the crown for DAZN.

Lol it’s really great to see, strikes me as the kinda guy that wouldn’t want any favours as he’s an honest guy.
That’s the first fight I’ve seen since Golovkin as I can’t be doing with watching these fights and seeing some diva win against public opinion, commentators and all the rest.
What annoys me is you maybe expect that from those involved but it’s the so called fans I don’t get who thrive off seeing the good guys get stuffed.

Also amazing to me how Bellew is now this great guy when his entire career he has spewed bombast, played the victim card and was routinely obnoxious to whomever he encountered. Now he gets outclassed and humbled, even resorting to kissing his conqueror's forehead multiple times and these cringy actions give him great guy status.

Boxing fans are all stupid with memories shorter than their cocks and deserve everything they get from the trash who run the sport. Start saving your pennies for Floyd's next circus act and that PED exempt science experiment Joshua's next PPV side show where his roided ass fights a guy tested to the limit by UKAD.

Honestly I find it bizarre anyone would think this would be that kind of domination. I assume only people who have little knowledge of both fighters would make these assumptions. Usyk is very often a slow starter, he's displayed this in most of his fights where he'd be facing a seemingly overmatched opponent and the earlies would be quite close. And pretty much invariably you get the "Usyk is struggling, is he really that good?". And then Usyk turns it up. Usyk is a bit overrated I feel as well but that's another topic.

And as much as people like to **** on Bellew, he's not THAT bad. His boxing ability is underrated, he does nothing outstanding but he's got solid fundamentals and a cool head. I'm frankly surprised how people are surprised that Bellew managed to be competitive for a few rounds.

Exactly, great post. The Usyk fanboy hysteria is laughable. Yes, he's an awesome boxer, but he's not the second coming of SRR, he gets hit frequently, is a sucker for a straight right, but does pretty much everything else well. He has holes in his armour, but the way some posters on here harp on, you'd think that he was giving the early rounds away and being punched in the face because he likes it... no, it's simply that Bellew is better than most give credit and Usyk while awesome, is not as good as people like to believe, he has holes in his armour, mainly his defence and lack of head movement.

Usyk fought at one pace throughout the fight, the astonishing thing about him is that he can maintain that single pace for 12 rounds, I never saw him switching through the gears other than when he had Bellew hurt, even then his attack was patient and calculated as those early right hands clearly bothered him.
