Just checked the Canelo-GGG fights compubox statistics.
First fight: Golovkin landed more in 10 out of 12 rounds.
Rematch: Golovkin landed more in 8 out of 12 rounds. In the 11th round they both landed 18 punches. If you give that to Canelo it’s still 8-4. And in those rounds where Canelo landed more, were very close rounds.

Yes, the number of punches landed is indeed a component of scoring a round. You must also include generalship, effective aggression as well as differentiating between the effectiveness in the cleanness of the blows landed.

You also have to take into account the popularity of the house fighter, crowd reaction and promotional bias/corruption.

Compubox doesn't take into account impact or cleanness of punching. It's just a guesstimation of what landed in real-time. Also most of Gennady's connects were from jabs which are much easier to connect on then power punches.

If a fighters knows all that going into a fight then it behooves him to due everything possible to KO his opponent instead of spending most of the fight playing defense and then expect to get the win.

You any idea how stupid that sounds?
Just to be sure to win in Vegas one needs a knockout or is it to win against Canelo you need to knock him out?

He had to knock Canelo out to get the victory in either fight, There is no point counting punches the rules were plain and simple, end the fight in under 12 or there is no victory for Golovkin.

Course he would, even an aged Golovkin is a superior athlete to Canelo.
There was a thread today arguing fighter of the year between Inoue and Usyk, you’d of thought given Canelo win against Golovkin that he’d be fighter of the year right?not one person mentioned Canelo as everyone knows he gets the nod even when he loses and if loses badly he gets a draw lol.

Ive seen enough evidence at this point, of bad compubox numbers (theres videos showing this), that I cant take it seriously anymore.

Secondly, even if the numbers are legit... not all punches are equal. If it was as simple as who landed more punches, they would just make that the scoring criteria and set up the punch counter at ringside. (Hmmmm... on second thought... maybe not a bad idea...) jk.

    Anyways thats just my perspective.

My point was simply that Gennady fought a stupid fight. Didn't seem to wake up till around the 8th round. Didn't mean to get your panties all in a bunch.

You must be joking. Canelo is a far superior athlete to GGG. The upper body movement, the variety of punching, the high level defense. It's no comparison. GGG's advantages are his jab and being percieved to have more power. I doubt even Canelo's biggest haters would argue that GGG is a better athlete.

He was mentioned several times in the topic, and this isn't exactly a pro-Canelo forum, so I wouldn't expect Canelo to be crowned as FOTY as it stands due to the controversy surrounding the GGG rematch and the clenbuterol situation, but he's certainly in that conversation especially with another fight next month.

I'm glad you've finally accepted that he could only win by KO.

Vegas doesn't count punches landed by Europeans.
