I am wondering how an allegation about Rocky Marciano being court-martialed and sent to a military prison was kept under wraps for so long. As someone who is greatly interested boxing history for over forty years, I had never learned about the allegation until recently.

Do you mind listing contemporary newspapers the author used to write about Marciano's early bouts in Holyoke, Providence and Philadelphia?

I always thought that was common knowledge about the Rock. Although I’ve heard several variations of the incident. Interested in the book but are there inside details on some of his previous fights we didn’t know about? Read some other biographies on him just want to make sure it’s worth it.

In which other books and articles had you seen it referenced?

I got this book for Christmas and I’m half way through. it is worth it for the court marshal story alone! His army record definitely shows another side to Rocky. It certainly answers some questions As to how he avoided the combat his regiment saw. I would like to know if Rockys family knew all of these details? Marciano was certainly no saint!

Although I’m not all the way through the book yet I am very much hoping there is a better explanation than we already know about the circumstances of the Allie Colombo relationship to Rocky. Al Weil taking on a practically unknown Marciano (for nothing) whilst he was supported/chaperoned full time by this jobless hometown friend of his whilst they traveled back and forth from Brockton to New York never quite stood up for me.

In the book there is a photo of Rocky and his friends after a baseball game.

He wasn’t even the biggest guy out of his childhood pals. Looking at the photo it would be hard to guess he could be the HW champion.

    You know it

Second book on boxing I ever read, first being Championship Fighting

To be fair, Marciano was more over dragged along in the court martial situation

I'd advise to people not to take everything in it as true, as it has some things incorrect and some stories that are just rumors that are taken as fact. Otherwise, great read.

He should have had a slot in Marvel comics then he could have joined the Avengers crew.
