Mickey Garcia is an excellent boxer, probably better than Spence. But he is only a light weight and in the ring he must not exceed 145lbs. Next Spence is a huge welter, which should surely be in the super welterweight. He has half a head more and must weigh in the 160. Garcia traded his 0 for cash.
I agree with everything but the last bit. Hes P4P ranked, hes a fantastic fighter and hes never lost, his mentality will definitely be that he can beat Spence. Being unbeaten can give you a false sense of immortality.
Garcia is too small IMO. I think he gets stopped mid to late rounds. Then again we've seen the smaller guy come up and dethrone the bigger man.
I always thought Garcia was around 5ft8 or 5ft9. Next to Spence - who is a legit 5ft9 - he looked tiny.
He's following the Brook blueprint. Move up and risk it for the bigger payday safe in the knowledge he can move back down and still get the Loma fight if he wants afterwards. Anyway credit to Mikey for finally landing a big fight we want to see him in. After all the talking we get to find out if he can succeed at 147.
Mikey will have to fight the perfect fight to win but it's not impossible. If Mikey can offset Spence's attack with precision punching it can make Spence very hessitant, and if Spence isn't attacking he isn't effective. Take him out of his comfort zone and Mikey could win this.
I've been a fan of Mikey since before his hiatus. I am looking forward to this fight, it's one of the top this year for me. I think Spence is a special fighter as is Garcia. Props to Garcia for taking this fight, I see this as him challenging himself, it's not a cash out imo. I really think Mikey is up against it big time against Spence, but that is the case for me with any opponent Spence faces. Maybe what Mikey said is true and he does zee zomething that he can use against Spence to get the upset win. I wish more fighters challenged themselves the way Mikey is in this fight.
If he wins he probsbly becomes a superstar, and if he loses (like expected) the step up was just too much. He loses by KO.
There’s a clear gap for a PPV star now Canelo is gone and Mikey has taken a gamble and hopes if he wins the major paydays will come. The trouble is Canelo had his cross over fight and took the loss to floyd where everyone knew who Floyd was. Spence is still completely unknown to the wider public. A good bigger guy will always beat a good little guy and for me once he loses Mikey will not look the same down at lightweight again. He should of gone for the Loma fight. If it was close he could have had the rematch.
Just saw a picture of the two, on a BBC-article. Jesus, the size difference is very noticeable! I really hope Mikey won't be permanently damaged from the beating he is gonna recieve. Garcia is much better than Brook ever was, and Spence Jr. is no Gennady Golovkin, but... This could end very badly imo. I like both fighters very much, but in this situations I will be rooting for the little guy/underdog.
How is Mikey gonna win ? Spence is just as fast. Has probably a better chin at the weight. Punches harder, and to the body especially. Has a bigger reach and is taller. Both are good movers. The only think Garcia can claim is better boxing skills, barely. This fight is a mismatch on paper.
