Tickets aren`t selling well for this clash, will it completely flop and will Wilder ever become a global superstar?
Fury said himself he is SOOO surprised people dont even know who Wilder is. And this is his home town! its astonishing.
Fight absolutely should have been in; 1. New York, with Barclay Centre in mind 2. Las Vegas, Nevada 3. Wilder's home town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama or near by in Birmingham or Atlanta, Georgia 4. Atlantic City, New Jersey If none of these places, it the only other option would be the UK. Any one of these options would have been a sell out. Los Angeles has almost no history in boxing whatsoever, Wilder and Fury both mean diddly squat over there and it makes no business sense whatsoever. The result (even before the fight) is they both look like nobodies and both couldn't fill a small pub with fans. Both should have a stern word with their respective promoters and ensure this does not happen again.
Tickets are absurdly expensive, and it has to compete with other sports for attention in Los Angeles. It was a terrible choice to have it in Los Angeles if they were going to be forced to charge prices that would ensure a majority of fans couldn’t go lol
Agreed should have been at Barclay but thats ok you gotta take what you can get still believe the fight will have a late build up...
Everything you said made sense until you said this. Los Angeles has an extensive boxing history. However, Wilder has only had one fight in Los Angeles, which was years before he became a champion against Kelvin Price. Oscar tried to get Wilder to fight more in Los Angeles, but Wilder preferred fighting in Alabama or New York, so because of that Wilder is virtually unknown to people in Los Angeles. Also, it doesn’t help that he’s fighting an opponent that is also virtually unknown outside of hardcore boxing fans. This fight would’ve easily sold in Vegas or in New York, since Wilder is more we’ll known in both places. Also, it doesn’t help that they are charging Tyson-Holyfield prices when Wilder-Fury aren’t anywhere near being household names. Even hardcore boxing fans I know that usually buy tickets to almost all of the local boxing events laughed at the ticket prices for Wilder-Fury and said they will settle for the PPV.
Should of been in Watford FC Stadium. They should give free tickets and flights, hotel rooms to fans I think to fill the stadium.
Lennox Lewis and Vitali Klitschko fought in the same arena and the paid attendance was 8,490. When people talk about Lewis-Klitschko today, you hear a lot about what a great fight it was, who was ahead, the terrible cuts ... TKO6 ... and everything else. Absolutely nobody brings up the attendance. All that matters is that Wilder and Fury put on a great fight and people tune in. I've said it a 100 times. It's not the 1940s. They don't have to fill up a stadium. It's a PPV fight. The number of people watching at home will determine how successful the promotion was.
The ticket and PPV prices are beyond rediculous. You could go to every Lakers and Rams game for a year for the price of one Wilder vs Fury ticket. I can see the strategy in having the fight in LA to try and fill the Staples center with rich celebrities, but a great way to alienate yourself from everyday fans is to go for a cash grab and try and rip them off. 7,000 tickets about says it all, Wilder and Fury can only draw about 3500 fans before they have to give the rest of the tickets away for free.
That fight was made on 10 days notice and the promotion was Lennox Lewis vs Kirk Johnson. The fact an Englishman can sell 8500 tickets against a virtual nobody, yet an American champion against the supposed lineal champion cant even draw 3500 between them says it all. Jarrell Miller and Adam Kownacki probably already have bigger fan bases in the US.
Lewis v Klitschko was fight for which had no promotion. That was a fight done on a few weeks notice. Not the same thing at all. You can't just disregard the gate. The gate of this fight is an indicator of how Wilder v AJ would perform and its not looking good. The purses paid will be based on ticket sales and PPV Buys. The shows budget will be based on ticket sale estimations.
The Sugar Ray Leonard-Wilfred Benitez/Marvin Hagler-Vito Antuofermo doubleheader drew 4,600 people. All four were well known. These 90,000 seat stadium fights in the UK have clouded people's minds. People watch boxing on TV in the U.S. They've tended to do that since TV was invented.
