Duran. Tough fight. I would assume very fan friendly with good stuff landed from both but Duran takes a UD IMO.
Good fight, and I hate to go to Duran threads because he wins 99% of hypotheticals but in this case I pick him too. Carlos is great and has a real shot, and if Duran comes in at anything short of his best Carlos could steal this similar to DeJesus. Can Duran dictate the tempo? Can Carlos slow this down and turn it into a more technical affair? To me this is the key, I don’t see Carlos slowing him down enough to win enough rounds. But if he could upset is possible. Duran by a tough 9-6 type decision
I’d probably pick Duran to win a first fight but Ortiz to win a series. He’s a complete boxer and the smarter of the two IMO. Duran a bit more up and down emotionally so a I think over a stretch of fights that favors Ortiz. Ortiz IMO is #1 from PR and for me probably ahead of Duran strictly on their lightweight body of work.
I like the pick and reasoning. I rate Duran 3 and Ortiz 4, at LW but couldn’t argue anyone who flip flopped them
Im going with Ortiz who is so underrated its sad . Hes as strong as Duran and he too also could box as proved in the Lauguna bouts and Ortiz was also tough.
I think Duran dominates and at times out boxes Carlos. The entire fight hitting him in the slats. Duran finally wins by KO IN 13. That is what knockout artist do; win by KO.
Nah, love Ortiz, and he was a great great fighter, a top 5 all time lightweight... but he's not beating the best lightweight that ever lived. Duran by clear UD or late stoppage.
I came here to post that I honestly don't know in this one. Ortiz faced the better level of opposition overall but Duran dominated his era. I can see both guys winning and everytime someone posts for one, I want to post for the other. I like @ChrisJS's view that Duran wins one but Ortiz takes a series. On that basis only, I'm picking Ortiz. Great match up this.
I always assume in these hypotheticals that it is the best version of each fighter at the weight. Most people, myself included, consider the best version of lightweight Duran as the one who beat DeJesus in '78. Which version of Ortiz do people consider to be the best?
I think Roberto Duran beats Luis Ortiz on paper, because he got the better resume. Simply the better fighter. Equalism ohhhhhhmmmmmmm.
Ortiz would be the best Duran fought at lightweight. Duran hit a little harder, and was better on the counter in addition to being more aggressive. I'd pick him to win a 9-6 type of fight, and would not be shocked if Duran fought dirty.
