Knocking this version of Fury out means little, Fury has was inactive for long period, been banned for failing drugs tests, ballooned to 400lb, openly admits he was snorting white and drinking himself stupid. On what planet does knocking this version of Fury out make up for a ticket sales flop and a PPV bomb should those two things happen? Has it ever occurred to you people are not really interested because they dont really see it as competitive because of Furys issues, problems and the state he was in? And also the fact Fury fights are boring.. Also this change in direction of Wilder fans has to be pulled up, 2 months ago they were saying "biggest fight in boxing" and "when this does 1 million plus PPV buys the AJ fight is 50/50" All that is now changing to "if he knocks Fury out then it still means as much". No, sorry, it really doesn't, you all hung your hats on numbers and the status of this fight, it looks like it's failing as a promotion and a money spinner, so you can't just turn around and change the goals.
I don't understand peoples fascination with ticket sales etc. Personally I'd rather watch boxing on the sofa with a beer in hand than pay loads of money to go to a stadium full of gobshites and struggling to see the action.
Also I would like to add @DoubleJab666 Hearn wasn't the only one talking numbers for this fight, who was giving it Charlie big cobblers about $1 million worth of ticket sales? WILDER Who has been talking this week about Numbers? How it would do more PPV buys in the UK? FURY Finkel and FW have both from the very start spoke about numbers numbers numbers, offers, offers, offers. So Hearn isn't turning up the heat, Hearn is turning the light back on to Wilder, Fury, FW and Finkel and showing that all the rubbish they talked before was exactly that.. rubbish. I honestly can't wait until we start seeing purses and earnings, then the real fun begins.. go on tell me now purses don't matter because they did when Wilder was offered 15 million to fight AJ, apparently that was an insult and peasant money. Let's see Wilder earn more than that 15 million for this fight and I will come on here and admit I was completely wrong but if he doesn't will people like you come on and admit you were completely wrong?
It's only an issue because Joshua/Wilder could not happen due to a difference in opinion of the fighters ability to generate revenue. No boxing fan really cares about who get's paid what or how many tickets they sell, we just want to see the best fight the best. But if it doesn't happen we want to know why and who to blame when it doesn't happen. And yes I'd rather watch a fight on the sofa with a whisky where I can properly see the action. While the atmosphere of a live fight is a great experience and fun you honestly can't see **** and can't usually judge the fight even if you can get a good view, probably due to the countless beers I had in the lead up to the fight.
It doesn't bother you but it means everything to the fighter. The Manchester Arena on Saturday had an unbelievable atmosphere and so did the O2 Arena for the Whyte vs Parker fight. Watching Wilder and Fury walk out to a half empty arena is poor given the stature of the fight.
Your initial post suggested the viewing figures were of no consequence. Now you want to change your tune. If you are seriously suggesting that your point was that Wilder has to win, then that would be stating the obvious and would make you look ridiculous.
When both Wilder and Fury camp claim this to be the biggest heavyweight fight of the year, then it’s fair game to look at ticket sales as a measuring stick to the interest people have in this fight. Which should correlate to PPV buys. So far this fight has generated poor sales and most likely flop in the PPV buys.
Anyone in wilders marketing position refusing a fight for 15 million regardless of how much the fight would generate...is a plum. Would have more than trebled his highest earning fight easily and gave him an opportunity to go on and maybe even keep making that sort of money if not more if he was to win. Was bonkers really. When cash cows like Joshua or may weather come calling you take that offer. Because win lose or draw your making a lot more money than fighting anyone else and getting great marketing to boot. Might work out for them cause eddies not actually as greedy as people make out. There's a lot worse in the sport regarding financials. What's up with boxing in the USA nowadays anyway?. Surprised their struggling to sell wilder v fury tbh. From our end the marketings been half decent. Also expected wilder would be a household name by now. Think maybe how big a place america is...its a bit more difficult? I think Eddie will bring boxing back to life a little bit over there tbh. He,ll put on some good fights. Try get the atmosphere good at the boxing. Try get new people into it.
Nope! Boxing in the US is not important. People don't really care anymore. Only being shown on pay channels and the "really good" fights are on PPV, which more times than not never live up to the hype. The boxing industry has shot itself in the foot for a decade now and people have lost interest. Think about it! In the last 5 years, how many fights were actually PPV worthy? Of those, how many lived up to the hype? So now you get Wilder, a knock out machine but, can't draw flies with a pencil. The hard core fans will tune in and most will buy the fight but, that won't be enough to make big $$$. Boxing needs to rebrand and it needs to make the right fights at the right time to bring boxing back into the lime light of sports in the US.
Was just trying to source where the 7,000-8,000 number came from, which was mentioned in the OP. It seems to have come from Hearn. No agenda, just trying to flesh out the 'facts'...
No really I didn't. Go read each post I made. At no point did I say that. Now I realise you have backed yourself into a corner and pride is not letting you back away from this, but you can't misrepresent what I said to give you an 'out'. Once again here is what I wrote: 'I guess Hearn has a figure in his head that he is prepared to pay Wilder - fair enough - and is turning up the heat by talking ticket sales, or lack of. But in the end, if Wilder lays out Fury in a crumpled pile of skin and bones that will This content is protected in terms of his future value than the number of people there to witness it....' 'Means more', attributes value to both aspects but ranks one above the other. If you cannot understand that, I can't help you....
Well anybody could go and see what tickets are available and how many are left, it isn't that difficult, If it was Hearn that quoted that figure I'm sure he would have some idea of what he is talking about or he would look a fool. Also Fury has been slaughtering the sales, regardless if it's 7k 8k or 10k at this stage it's still poor. I read they have shut off parts of the arena. I'll look tomorrow.
