He's obviously NOT underrated. The fact that he's always being discussed as a contender - based on a few wins over such ordinary opposition - means he's being fairly rated, possibly overrated. The day he beats a genuine top 10 heavyweight we can debate whether he's "underrated". Until then he's lucky to be getting so much attention.
Problem with Miller other than the obvious is he hasn't fought anyone who is any good. Washington I never rated the Wilder performance flattered his ability, he's on Charles Martin level or worse, he's that bad. Kownacki is gonna KO him. Wach was old and past his best and even at his best he was just a big durable guy who was never a serious contender. Duhaupas's career highlight was beating Manuel Charr and getting stopped by Wilder. He's again a durable guy like Wach at the tail end of his career. He was a gate keeper at best even during his prime but at 37 he was just a guy to pad your record with. Loses to Teper and Pianeta also showed how poor he really is. Adamek, not even a heavyweight, shot to hell, literally scraping the barrel for an opponent. Dinu looked the part, prime, fresh, undefeated but he was an unknown quantity. I thought he had a chance as he looked far better than anyone Miller had fought so far despite having a record littered with guys you'd expect a 10 fight novice to fight. But Miller is perhaps better than I thought, he dealt with Dinu easily, though again showed he's damn easy to hit. How good is Miller, hard to say, he might be better than prime Arreola so not just a gate keeper as I do think he has more skills than Arreola ever had but he probably will only ever be a fringe contender, in this division he's far too easy to hit, with monster punchers like Ortiz, Joshua and Wilder I can't see him over coming them. Unless he has a chin like McCall and a heart like Marciano I think he'll come undone against the top guys.
Miller vs Joyce would be a good fight, as would Miller vs Ortiz. But look who they are facing instead of facing each other. You cant take them seriously about wanting big fights when they are facing easy beat opposition instead of each other and refuse to even try to increase their worth and generate some interest as a worthy headliner as a Miller, Whyte, Parker, Povetkin or Chisora has throughout their careers. Why not face each other, take a risk, generate some interest and bring something to the table? Fighting Hanks and Kauffman on the same undercard is very disappointing. They don't want no smoke or the work, they want a piggyback/payday/free ride off someone else.
Hopefully Hearn and Joshua will choose Miller for April. Wilder will likely beat Fury, but he'll never fight Joshua because he knows he'd get knocked out. And Joshua's already beaten Whyte by stoppage, so that's a much less interesting fight.
I'm not saying Ortiz or Joyce has fought a murderers row, but if you consider their opposition weak and bare in mind Joyce is a 5/6 fight novice then what the hell do you consider Miller's opposition as? Infact Ortiz has 2 far better wins in Thompson and Jennings than anyone Miller has faced.
Please, Miller would slaughter a 220 Jennings and a 45 year old Thomspon. In fact bar one big fight Millers opponents so far look remarkably similar to Wilders. Only difference being Miller is actually calling out Whyte, Joshua, Povetkin, Usyk instead of running from them.
And Joyce has or is calling out Miller, but apparently he's not earned it yet Dinu and 62yo Adamek had.....you see the double standard here. Also name me an opponent Miller has beaten who is better than either Jennings or Thompson even at his old age.
You're not wrong, I don't rate Miller that highly, but even I think he mauls Jennings, he has nothing to keep Miller off him, horrible style match up for Jennings.
Dinu is a decent stoppage win but doesn't really tell us a whole lot about Miller we didn't already know.
Tomas Adamek - former light heavyweight world champion, cruiserweight world champion, world heavyweight title challenger and future hall of famer. Younger than Thompson, less shot than Thompson, and didn't come out of retirement to fight Miller at 45 years of age like Thomspon did Ortiz. Scream mismatch all you like, that's what happens when you fight someone 100 pounds heavier than you as people are beginning to notice, as would be the same case vs a feather fisted 225 Jennings. There's no double standard, Joyce has been calling out Ortiz as well which is why it's hilarious they are both fighting stiffs on the same card instead of each other. It's a coin toss between Whyte and Miller, 2 guys who headline cards, one on PPV, as to who is the world #1 contender. Neither Ortiz or Joyce have a fan base, belts, much money or pulling power and their fighting easy beats on undercards when they don't have too and could be easily fighting each other to generate the money, fans and pulling power and to force that type of fight. Look at Kownacki. Beats Szpilka, then takes a big big risk for him against Martin and wins a heavyweight fight of the year candidate and is headlining his own cards. I don't see how its Miller responsibility to make sure a 6 fight novice as you say and a 40 year old who doesn't bring money to the table, fans, or have a promoter who are lingering on undercards hoping for scraps, get paid and promoted off his back out of his pocket when they can't even fight each other and he's next in line for a world title shot. Essentially Millers in the big leagues, Joyce and Ortiz are still in the Minors fighting guys in the third division and are refusing to force their way into the big leagues by fighting other competitive minor leaguers like everyone else in the division does.
Im still not overly sold on Miller, He certainly carries his bulk very well there are some serious flaws to his game that just havent been exposed in the ring yet. Hes done everything at his own pace and the distance of his choice to date after easily taking control of fights from the start but when he steps in with the top boys he wont find it so easy to wrestle control from them or manage it at all and when that happens, if that happens, he is going to be pushed back, asked questions, beaten to the punch. I think it is then we will be all coming back on here saying he is too big, too bulky, too heavy and its affecting his movement, punching range and stamina.
That's how I see it as well. He's shown that he isn't some total bum beating the guys he has been fighting so far but to be taken seriously he'll need to take a risk and fight one of the top guys, because even if he fights another lower top 10 guy, a lot of those fighters are relatively unproven, even someone like Ortiz is old and has only beaten Jennings. I'd like to see him vs someone well proven. Chisora if he loses to Whyte would be a good option, not much of the threat but Chisora if anything is a proven gate keeper, when he's motivated which he would be vs Miller he's a handful and you have to be pretty good to beat him. Povetkin would be another very proven fighter but a dangerous fight. Though with Povetkin working with Hearn it's a doable fight. Whyte after he loses to Joshua in April would be a good fight. Tough one again but one I could see Miller winning if he can impose his style of fight on Whyte. Pulev would be a good win for him and a winnable fight but he already passed on that one and Pulev with his mandatory won't fight him now.
Are you claiming Adamek was a good win at that stage in his career? So Charles Martin is a big risk fight? Log off and watch another sport, Joyce has called out both Ortiz and MILLER.....neither want the work and both are happy fighting the Dinu' of the boxing world.
