Some fighters operate without a manager i believe, probably the journeymen fighters dont even have a proper trainer i would imagine.

 

No. Your not allowed yo box without a manager.
A lot of JM just pick up a second at the shows, some come with their own trainers

 

I know the Ingles take 35% which is disgusting imo

 

All have to have a manager but some are self managed. Need to be a licence holder for more than three years to get a manager licence a self manage

Tbh I think trainers are underpaid. It should be a better % than 10.
Iv heard of trainers who have earned near on f.all after training fighters.
Standard 4rds after ticket deal and sold about 100 tickets the fighter walks away with about a G.
100 quid of that for 3/ 4 months training a kid sometimes 5 times a week for a couple of hours. The trainer also has to get to the gym, fuel etc

 

IIRC Brendan viewed the Wincobank gym as a community project. He supposedly only started training boxing as a vicar asked for help controlling local feral children. He trained lots of no-hopers for peanuts to keep them off the streets, and made his "name" fighters visit prisons and schools. His slightly high fees were a mean of paying for that - the tiny number of successes subsidised his efforts to help a greater number of ordinary folk gain self-respect through boxing. Mind you, I have no idea if Dominic shares those ideal!

 

Fair points but surely the fighter pays the trainer a small sum for every session like the average Joe does for a bit of 1-2-1 training after work?

 

Surely depends on the purse and level of input, work and time put in. And each relationship is unique. Some trainers put up fighters and pretty much parent them, whereas others may not be so astute and helpful.

Paddy Fitzpatrick comes to mind not knowing which round Groves was even in against Jack. He was more clueless than a concussed Bellew after the Usyk fight, and wouldn't have deserved an example of £100,000 of a 1 mil pot - just putting the figure out there as 10%. Ironic, as Groves left Booth over money, who he looked fantastic, confident and a world beater under. True that you pay for quality at times, but I reiterate that each situation and dynamic is unique, so a flat set rate is not really applicable. And while trainers put in a great effort they are not risking their health, reputation or future in the same ways that the fighters are. Could argue in cases for more than and less than 10% both ways.

 

It's all relative though. That 10% becomes pretty damn good if you train a very good fighter. 10% of a fighter earning hundreds of thousands or millions per fight isn't bad at all.

Fighters have to pay managers, promoters cut, training expenses. That's 50% of the purse done.

 

Fighters do not always pay 10% of purse to trainer they can negotiate a set amount for big purses. Managers on the other hand want there %

 

I reckon Booth. Apparently he is the most expensive in the UK.
