Does Vasyl Lomachenko pass the eyeball test?

he looks like willie pep in the sense that he shares the same diminutive unimpressive stature. otherwise, he doesn't have willie pep's upper body movement or the fluidity.

 

I get the feeling (not just from this post, but others as well) that the number of pro fights is of great importance to you. At least if we want to call a boxer an ATG. That Loma had an astounding amateur career obviously means nothing to you, as his rivals weren't really any good, in your opinion... just as his pro opponents have been more or less useless, in this day and age where the competition is so poor.

So what, in your opinion, does Loma have to do, to be remembered as a great boxer? He will of course never come even close to Pep's numbers, and with no real top class opponents to chose from - is there any hope for him, to be remembered as more than just another mediocre champion from a weak era?

 

Contrasting him stylistically to pep is reasonable and does not mean we are contrasting or comparing greatness. I wouldn’t use the Pep analogy personally but the foot work and use of angles etc. it’s not a bad comparison

He’s brilliant. He’s probably put in more good work and dazzling performances of any fighter since he turned pro in 2013.

I think his lack of height and short arms really mean he should max out at 135 and focus on dominating there. There’s going to be good talent moving up and developing that division so he should get all the belts so they must go through him.

 

But who has he fought with the ability of Saddler, Angott,Wright, and the other great fighters Pep fought? Garza was seen at one point as the next Zarate or Olivares. How did that turn out? Curry was seen as better than R.Leonard and on his way to R.Robinson status after the Mccory destruction, A.Bruno was seen as heir apparent to Mayweather Jr. What happened ? All the fighters I named LOOKED like an ATG at one point in their career,each had well over twenty pro fights before they were exposed. Let's stop jumping the gun with Lomo with 13 pro fights and a loss to his ledger already.

 

Did you score the fight? And if so do you think he lost?

 

I'll just say this he's (Lomo) is the media darling, though the fight was held in Texas, if he had definitively won the fight, it would've been given to him.

Yes I did see the fight in its entirety. When it happened. Should Lomo have gotten the dec? He dominated the last rd, and it could've easily have been a two point rd, esp with the fouling Salido was doing. But up until the last rd the fight could've went either way. It wasn't a dominating performance for Lomo in comparison to Whitaker vs Ramirez a fight Whitaker won almost every rd and their shouldn't have been any controversy much less the win for Ramirez. And, what's special about Salido anyway? He was nowhere near as good as Ramirez was, and If Lomo is what his fans try to make him to be, fight shouldn't have been close. That simple.

 

You don’t think the fact it was only his second pro fight or the fact Salido came in far over weight and refused to weigh the next day can contribute to it in any way? Not to mention the awful refereeing missing dozens of blatantly deliberate low blows.

i just finished reading another apologist post asking why he doesnt get credit for being so great as an amateur, now hes getting too much credit if you expect him to beat a salido in his second fight. you guys need to huddle up and decide how much credit does he get for being too good for anyone in the ams.

 

Lomachenko is the greatest amateur of all time, and a very good, not great, pro, and he's as good as he is going to get.

Comparing a guy who is 12-1 and lost to a guy with 14 losses to Pep is a joke. More similar in total to Johnny Famechon.
