I`ve just watched a brilliant study showing how all Bellew was doing was waiting for Usyk to punch and timing him with counters and that he didn`t land many counters anyway, was Bellew`s performance overrated and was Usyk far more skilled?
Bellew boxed very very well early doors. Made usyk miss and made him reset with the right hand to the body. He didn't manage to land many left hooks and later on usyk managed to adjust to the right hand to the head. Eventually youth and size took over. A good fight where the favourite won clearly after the underdog started well. It's not a fight that needs over analysing
Yes, this is the study I was talking about, but someone complained about me posting vids on here from youtube so I didn`t bother, have you heard about article 13?
A little head movement from Bellew was enough to make Usyk look clueless for most of the fight. And Bellew is not that good.
He wasn´t. Bellew did not win 5 rounds that night. Even if the official judges had him up. And let's say he was ahead on the cards. What does it matter if he couldn't get past the 8th round? He was slowing down and got taken apart. It doesn't matter that he won some early rounds. He got outboxed. It's a 12 round fight and Usyk got the better of him.
Absolutely. The crowd went nuts every time Bellew threw something even though almost nothing landed, much less cleanly. Judges and commentators definitely got carried away there.
It's all well and good Bellew investing most of his physical and mental reserves into winning the first three rounds (and surviving the next four) but winning those battles lost the war. Had he fought with the intensity he was capable of sustaining for 12 rounds, he likely wouldn't have won the early rounds and built up a lead. Bellew used a lot of movement to set up his counters and a lot of concentration to time them. He emptied the tank to stay in the fight...
