Rankings could be used to tighten it up where possible.

For example a contender who was ranked for a lot of years, such as Harry Wills or Tim Witherspoon, is clearly an exceptional contender.

You could also look at wins over other ranked contenders, for example did the fighter get to the top based on a lot of so so wins, or did he nail another top contender.

Rumsfeld has produced scores for fighters, based upon rankings.

You could also look at wins over champions, and other significant fighters of the period.

I fear that your tier F, now has a number of sub divisions.

I would debate your placement of some fighters within your system, but that is another matter.

I was mostly looking at performance against other contenders/title fights, as well as how dodged they were.

For an example, I think Harry Wills would've beaten Willard. I think that Ike would've beaten at least 1 champ of his era

I loved Smokin' Bert, and he was in some gassers against Mercer, Moorer, and good old Evan Fields. But in all fairness, he lost then all, and was in genuine stinkers against guys like Foreman and Bowe.

Orlin Norris was a good win, and Joe Hipp decent. Hard to think of other real good ones without going to boxrec.

Another Greg Page type who had talent but blew it due to weight and drugs.

Andrew Golota, Jameel McCline, Frans Botha, are all up there.

Mavrovic and Golota are among the Eastern European heavyweight pioneers, and should get daps just for that, considering the heavyweight empire and legacy the Klitschko Brothers created thereafter.

Peter Jackson is one of the very few contenders, who did not get a shot at the tile, who could be considered an odds on favorite over the champion.

If I put a gun to your head, do you think that the Sullivan of the Corbett fight, would have seen off his challenge?

Or even Sullivan of the Kilrain fight.

    Absolutely not

The Sullivan of the Kilrain fight might be able to get the job done, however

I think Sullivan would have to be at or near his best to beat Jackson, he was a total mess by the Kilrain fight, a broken arm that I don't think healed properly, and absurd amounts of drinking, as in very nearly killing himself with drink.

Completely disagree. I think Sullivan at his best could beat Jeffries, Fitz, etc and give guys like Johnson and Ingo a run for their money.

Prime Sullivan would kill Jackson in the same way that he'd kill Corbett

You might well be right, but the timeline favors Jackson here, probably more than it favors Wills in his era.

A potential Sullivan Jackson title fight, would have had to take place some time after the Sullivan Killrain fight.

Jackson would have enjoyed pretty much perfect timing!

Marciano ruined Layne. Layne was supposed to have his title shot by then but was screwed. I believe Charles opted to give Walcott a 19th shot at the belt lol. Either way mentally he never looked as confident again. Constantly came in out of shape.

Having dentures in your 20s doesnt help either. Layne was sparked out completely. Im surprised he kept fighting, but hey, most fighters dont know when to quit.

They should’ve been champs, but were nutcases tier: Golota, Ibeabuchi, Mitch Green, Clifford Ettiene.
