It actually has gotten very bad. I used to think Sky did boxing better than anybody. I think when McCrory left was probably the beginning of the end in terms of trying to be as unbiased as possible and professional. I watched the yelluessinov fight on the sky broadcast and the post fight dribble. Now when Macklin was bagging the kazak a couple of fights back, I couldn't really argue. However the carry on tonight, when he looked very good and stopped the guy, well it was just shameful. Then the post fight, criticizing Daniyar, pretty much beyond belief. I mean Kelly is a super prospect and Taylor is a gun, about to win titles/wbss but just pull your heads out of your asses sky pundits, just shut the **** about it and watch the guy fighting right in front of your eyes on the night then give credit where and when it is due!
Standard of the card, accolades and ex-pro or not, one shouldn't be allowed to just wing it and talk off the top of one's head and limited knowledge. It's work, and pundits while shouldn't be complete tactical analysts as the role differs, should do their homework, researching and taking things seriously.
Every bit of criticism macklin levelled against him could also be said about Michael conlon but he's macklins fighter. I found the lack of awareness hilarious. But then hearn on afterwards saying hes ready for the top guys at welterweight was equally hilarious
The Sky Sports team have a pre scripted agenda which is mainly aimed at feeding interest in Eh Day's PPV agenda. The commentary would have been already prepared for that Kazak fighter based on him having a stinker in a previous fight. The Sky commentary team are garbage card after card - Smith, Froch, Haye and Macklin all awful. McCrory and Watt were miles better
Yeah - agree with all of the above. Certain fighters just have the charisma and ability to self promote that others massively lack, and this is what can make all the difference when it comes to making money.
You're spot on. Smith in particular was stitched up by his 'I quite fancy him vs Takam' only to get the reveal about 5 minutes later that it was already signed for the 22nd. If you're going to patronise your audience, make sure everyone is on the same script. The venue and the card was never going to make it a classic but even taking that into account the commentary was annoying.
Actually I think this was a rare example of the drones deviating from their assigned programming. Eddie is bigging Yerwhatsisnameov as the second coming of SRL, I think Macklin was the first to be unable to reconcile the evidence of his own eyes with the corporate line. However as he's probably being groomed for the US circuit maybe they're on the approved track and sooner or later one of our 'clearly superior' welterweights will be lined up to teach Johnny foreigner a lesson.
Yeah the Takam figh stuff was incredible. Obviously promoters, managers and tv channels will have plans laid out that they won’t disclose with the audience. That’s fair enough. But it was the fact that Smith in my opinion holds the audience in such disregard that he pretends to ‘fancy’ a fight in order to condition the viewer. Only for it to come out straight after the fight that it’s already been made is simply incredible. Followed up by Hearn’s nonsense afterwards that Hunter might not want another fight because he’s knackered, seconded by Nelson! Rahman had already told us he had signed!
