Aaron Pryor vs Floyd Mayweather

I'm sorry, but we're talking about Aaron Pryor, not Ricky Hatton or Arturo Gatti.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it would be easy. But Pryor was a human windmill in his prime. He had quick feet, and knew how to cut off the ring, he also had very good power for that weight class. I just see it as Pryor and his aggression would force Mayweather to be more defensive minded . Forcing him to be more focused on avoiding punches and not on setting up his offense. He of course would find some room to work, but for the most part with a fighter like Pryor, or a Henry Armstrong busy fighters with a great chin, and the will to fight through the counters, they would in my opinion simply out work him. And he didn't have the firepower to make them think about not rushing him with a 100 different punches from crazy angles.

 

I agree with Flash. Pryor outworks Floyd for UD. Possibly late stoppage over 15.

Pryor is on him like flies on s**t. You REALLY think that Mayweather would take a fight with a prime Aaron Pryor? Maybe once Pryor is using a walker!!!

 

Macos Maidana was able to arguably win vs. FMJ in the first bout. Pryor was leagues ahead of someone like Maidana. I'd still lean to Mayweather, but Pryor is the right kind of guy to test him.

 

Pound for pound I rank Floyd Mayweather Jr. much higher than Aron Pryor all time. But when matched specifically at Jr. welterweight I have a hard time favoring anyone over the Hawk.

 

Mayweather was 37 and...let me check...beat Maidana twice, who was significantly bigger than Pryor.

Pryor had retired to the crack den by age 37.

 

It would come down to pace. Whoever controls pace wins.

 

Mayweather would roll Pryors shots and light up on Pryor with his own straighter punches. Pryor wins a few rounds on workrate but Mayweather wins 9-3 or 8-4

 

Pryor is a combination of everything Mayweather style would struggle with.

Mayweather cannot afford to stand and trade nor can he simply think he can potshot Pryor. Mayweather will have trouble with a swarmer with this level of intensity, stamina and power.

That should not be a surprise. At 140 Mayweather’s did not fight the best fighters of his career. Perhaps this was his weakest division as far as competition.

Pryor would be a huge step up in competition level.
