All the bull**** has finally gotten to me and I have. I used to buy every PPV, I have all the all ATG fighters careers on dvd, knew the top 10 of every weight class, read Ring magazine, a hardcore fan all around. Now in my eyes there isn't a single fight worth paying $75-80 for and I haven't bought one in over a year. I'll miss fights and not see them for weeks after, if at all. I couldn't even tell you who all they have in the top 10. But now after all this time of best not fighting the best, too many belts, bull**** decisions, all the other controversies and now we have promoters openly talking about money more than anything and constantly dogging the other guys fights, it's just become too much for me. And this new entitled attitude all the fighters have of thinking they should be making millions right away for fighting less than the best is making it worse. Anyone else have this happen?
Yes it is slowly pushing me away as well. Nothing kills the integrity of a sport more than corrupt judging. Instead of ordering ppv's now I just go to the local casino and pay the cover. This weekend it is $5 if you have the casino promo card, no brainer for me. Plus I don't have to clean up after knucklehead friends.
I started to train harder recently and that took me away from boxing forums, I just can't look at threads like "this three time world champion is a bum" or "this guy didn't beat this other guy the way that I wanted and that makes him a bum" after knowing how hard it is for a boxer to be able to compete, not even becoming a world champion or a national level boxer but the amount of hard work that you need to put just to be able to compete in an official match, I have been a boxer for 6 years already but now I'm training like a real boxer and that got me a new world of respect for boxers. I still watch a lot boxing tho, it's just that I don't take the comments of the fans the way as I did back then. Regarding boxing corruption and fights not being made, the ones getting hurt are the promoters and boxers, when fighters like Wilder and Fury fight each other, or Canelo vs GGG, they take the respect of the boxing world unlike guys like Crawford fighting Collazo or Spence fighting Garcia, I like both of them a lot but they are hurting themselves, not the sport.
Was a casual fan for years, as in watched most of the name guys, then became a hardcore fan about 12 years ago.
GGG vs Canelo 1 killed it for me. To have such a robbery on such a high level match really ruined what can be such a great sport if it had a non-corrupt governing body.
I still love the sport but im just busy with other**** for the past year or two. All to ofteb i wake up on sunday casually browse the forums an see a RBR thread an think "wtf how did i not remember this fight was coming up".
Have to admit I haven't followed any prospects for a few years now. I don't go out of my way to rewatch "lower level" world class fights after they happen if I missed them, either. I no longer stream "obscure" Japanese cards. I don't think it has much to do with the "politics" of boxing. They are the same as ever. Matchmaking has continued to slowly spiral downward, however.
I still watch it, though I will not subscribe to another pay channel....like someone else said its too many mismatches, and terrible judging calls
I think the truth is you finally got gf/bf and started getting laid and have found something better to do with your time now. Congrats bro
Isn't 99.9 percent of the people here casual fans? I thought that is why most of you don't know what you are talking about.
When I first joined this forum I started a thread called, “How Boxing Lost its Magic”. The only reason I owned a tv was for boxing; ESPN Friday Night Fights, Tuesday Night Fights, HBO and Showtime. I bought every copy of the Ring and read from cover to cover. I took some boxing lessons, went to a few live fights, bought damn near every PPV and was a boxing evangelist to the unwashed masses and I read Dougie’s Friday and Monday mailbags religiously. I was rewarded with Corrales vs Castillo, Barrera vs Morales, Morales vs Anybody, the unfathomable shock of RJJ getting ethered with one punch, Gatti Ward, Legendary Nights, the list goes on and on. No ther sport in the world compares to the sheer human drama and emotions like boxing...but I was losing a war of attrition. Every good fight was PPV. Oscar made stars and multimillionaires out of Hopkins and Floyd. Bob Arum “F*** the fans.” HBO and Showtime counterprogramming one another. Ridiculous stats like, “46 time world champion in 17 divisions!”. Oscar bought the Ring and promptly fired the entire staff. Richard Schaefer was more of a regular figure than the fighters themselves. Al Haymon starts buying fighters and they stop fighting. Floyd claims to be TBE, ducks Shane, Williams, Margs and Cotto and retires. He unretired after they all took each other out. And when the two greatest fighters in the last 20 years have a chance to fight one another? They both find a way to not fight. I got sick of Freddy Roach and Floyd Sr. I got sick of Ward suing his cancer ridden promoter. There’s more but I’ll stop for now.
