I think when fights are made there should be some sort of deposit paid to fighters which is non refundable maybe two weeks out from the fight. It’s not right to expect low earning or even high earning fighters to spend a lot of money on camps only for their payday to fall through last minute through no fault of their own.

It's a nice story and all that, and I like that boxing have rallied round him, but a lot of people seem to forget what he was convicted of just last year. Not the nicest of guys, despite what selling a belt on eBay might tell you. Fair play to th community though.

Dreadful that a boxer decided to sell his hard earned belt for money to cover xmas.

Sickening when we think of the multi millions paid to the PPV grubs Tony Bellew, Toe Haye, Paint Dry Parker, Dullian Whyte and Dull Boy Journeyman Pakora.

Apart from the PPV Multi Millionaire grubs, TV companies and promoters - PPV does nothing for boxing.

yeah true, something better in the contract maybe.

think this was the point fury was trying to make when haye pulled out,
that he had spent lots on camp and then the fight didnt happen. they must burn through funds and then not get it back.
i dont know much about contracts in boxing though so not sure what is covered about this.

Your display name gives away your bias for a Scottish fighter. All I said is that he's not the sweetheart he's being made out to be.

I can confirm I liked Tyson as a fighter and thought he was very skilled but do not masturbate over his videos. Cheers.

Many single parents up and down the country struggle daily and many will have extremely stressful Christmas periods.

Clarke has got lucky and by the looks of it just got a sponsor and a few quid to help him out.

Good luck to him but let's not go over the top here with sympathy, it's sad sure, I don't like the idea of any person struggling or suffering but at least he had something to sell, some don't even have that.

And let's be real here, Clarke could work and box, many fighters do, some work full time and box part time and some box full time and work part time.

He stuck a belt up for sale and that was his decision but it is isn't a tragedy, Clarke is obviously able bodied and fit enough to get work somewhere.

    Nothing is covered, usually.
Contracts are there to be negotiated but I've never heard of a fighter been reimbursed for lost funds due to a opp pulling out. Unless the opp has weighed in of course, then you will still get paid, if it happens after the weigh in.

Lots of these fighters were sent to boxing gyms to keep em off the streets/out of trouble.. End up doing well and have to make sacrifices (ie school)

Going from nothing to earning a decent amount within a few years with not much financial knowledge is dangerous.. Boxers should be educated on the basics and this alone could make a good impact on their long term financials..
