@ Heavyweight. The best heavyweight Spinks vs Prime Dempsey. Could Spinks out box Dempsey?

I think it has to be Dempsey.

I think Dempsey would be extremely hard to beat without power to stop him in his tracks. Plus he had basically the same style as Mike Tyson, Tyson was better, but I don't think that bodes well for Spinks either.

He might give him problems with his herky jerky movement but once Jack finds his range , I think the writing would be on the wall .Dempsey by mid to late ko.

I think Dempsey might get to Spinks even faster than Tyson did, but Spinks was obviously not at his peak in 1988 and didn't come to fight. I think the Spinks who beat Cooney and Holmes has a real chance, maybe 35-40%.

My best guess is it goes a little like Dempsey-Tunney II, with Dempsey less behind if he's in peak condition, knocking down Spinks a round or two earlier and finishing him off successfully.

You think in some ways it could be like Spinks/Qawi?

I doubt that. I see Spinks being much more competitive than that. Spinks would have been a big heavyweight for that era and skilled as well. You can argue that he would have been the best opponent that Dempsey faced. Certainly one of the best.

Which Spinks is it? Is it it Spinks from 85 or 88, since as much as I like Dempsey I could see Spinks from 1985 giving Dempsey all kinds of trouble. However, the broken and injured Spinks from 1988 gets easily destroyed by Dempsey.

I see it like this in 85 or 88. Not a knock on Spinks, just the wrong guy/style for Dempsey.

He was broken in 1988? Prior to the Tyson fight what indicated this ?

Even back in 1985 going into the Holmes fight he already had one bad knee, but he still had bounce to his step and was able to move well. In the rematch his mobility and timing was already more labored and less fluid. Also, because of his knee injury Michael couldn't train as much, which is why his weight kept going up. By 1987 he had two bad knees and was sitting on the sidelines for a quick and easy payday (maybe not easy). For the Tyson fight his legs were barely holding him up and he was at a career high 212 lbs and had been out the ring for a year.

At 198 lbs Michael is was in great shape, was light on his feet, and didn't need to have his knees taped. At 41:45 Michael slightly shifts his weight to his back leg and bends his knees just enough to leave Holmes jabbing at the air. Michael couldn't move anything like this in the Tyson fight.

At 208 lbs Michael is in decent shape against Cooney, but already had one knee taped and was squaring up a lot because since can't put much weight on that knee.

at 212 lbs Micahel's body isn't in such great shape. Also, he's got both of his knees taped and has absolutely no bounce to his step.

Michael later admitted he had bad knees, but obviously didn't come out and say it in the build up for the Tyson fight, since he didn't want to risk a $14 million payday much like Sergio Martinez swore up and down that his legs were healthy going into the Cotto fight even though they weren't.

'Until you hear it from me, it's not happening,' Spinks said. 'What I've said all along is, if I could get (my knees) healthy again I'd fight. But I'm not healthy.

I just don't see it. I mean, it's plausible that Dempsey stops him, just not as early as you're speculating. Dempsey had a similar style to Tyson, but he was not Tyson
