A lot have heard of him (Fury) due to his rather distinctive name. If you asked 20 people in the street of all demographics outside of Manchester to point him out from a photo I'd be surprised if more than half could. He really isn't that big of a deal here. Hatton, Calzaghe and to a lesser extent Haye were better known to the public IMO.

 

Yes very embarrassing,the bomb squad thing was bad enough but he now keeps on talking about wanting to kill someone.
Was wondering why he’d not been on Rogan like Fury and it’s quite possible that he’s just too much of a nob to get on there.

 

Yep was gonna say the same,Canelo and Golovkin are only known to boxing fans or keen sports fans.
Mike Tyson had such notoriety and even his opponent Frank Bruno was more famous than either of these two,id say Floyd and Manny were the last two boxers that folk knew outside of being boxing fans.

I'm sure if Wilder walked the same streets and asked "Do you know who Tyson Fury is?" most would answer "no" or "I know Mike Tyson, yes".

 

He is only copying a stunt that fast car pulled on IFL 1 year ago also going around asking randoms whether they knew who Deontay wilder is. This was designed to belittle Wilder into accepting the lowest possible offer to fight AJ.

You could go out anywhere in the UK and most would know who Tyson Fury is .. almost all would know who AJ is . That’s why Wilder isn’t worth any more than say Parker . No one knows him. But I bet in New Zealand everyone knows who he is.

A 40-0 world heavyweight champion who hardly anyone knows.

 

Wilder's from Alabama though, so it's not really like for like.

I'd guess he's better known there, although I don't know for sure.

 

I’m not a fan of wilder at all infact I actually find him pretty unlikeable as a person but....

It isn’t really about how popular Wilder is it’s about how popular BOXING is in both countries and people’s awareness of the sport...

AJ is a national hero BUT boxing is also massively popular in the UK at the moment.

And so a much higher percentage of people in the UK would also know who Wilder is aswell. It’s not a direct correlation to how popular someone is just because people has an awareness of boxing.

 

I'm surprised Wilder didn't do more self promoting around LA. I've seen Fury walking the streets, and going to the Lakers' game but no Wilder.

 

Holyfield is also from Alabama, back in the day still every kid knew his name, from New York or LA.
