Fury is a true boxer, Joshua and Wilder are just good athletes with mediocre skills.

    And imo boxing beats athleticism.

    Especially if the boxer is somewhat athletic as well which fury is(even if his body doesn't look like it)


    Joshua's jab is nowhere near as good as it should be for his build. He should be pounding people to dust with his jab alone like old George foreman did. He needs a Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno type jab.



    Wilder is so technically poor. He's like a right handed razor ruddock. Everything is centered around landing one punch. He doesn't even try to set it up, if his opponent isn't in range he will just wait and give up rounds like he did vs szpilka and washington until they got stupid and came at him SMH.







    Very few great boxers left at HW, mostly just athletic rejects from other sports. Especially true when it comes to American HWs


    Really sad actually.
    Look at the 80s when you had prime Tyson Tucker Thomas Holmes Williams tubbs Holyfield dokes witherspoon all excellent boxers with slickness and old school skills.




    Fury boxed his entire career,never came to boxing as a second option. He has a diverse skill set. You could do film studies on him

    Nowadays it's guys who started boxing at 20 and who have no idea how to fight inside, how to roll with shots, how to use your jab for different purposes

    Usyk will do a number on most of these guys because he can actually box.

    I agree with the thread title.
    Fury is the only big heavyweight in the post-Wlad era who can box well.
    That's why it's such a shame he went off the rails. I'm hoping he can come back to his best, or close to it. But he might have done himself in.

    Are you talking about the Tyson Fury that hit himself in the face with an uppercut?

    I sort of agree.

    I couldn't believe AJ got caught by that Wlad lunging right hand. A world champion held in such high regard shouldn't get hit with that if Wlad threw it 100,000 times. Somehow he got up and toughed out a win, but I was shocked at how bad Joshuas defense was in that fight.

    Having said that, I really think AJ improved. He said himself he learned more in that fight than all his previous fights put together. We saw against Parker more of a boxing brain. Pre Wlad Parker would have been able to tag Joshua a dozen times. As it was he barely got a shot in.

    Wilder is horrific when it comes to skills. I mean we used to see Roy Jones off balance often but at least Roy had a great arsenal of punches. Wilder has 1. The straight right. And he keeps winging it in the hope it lands eventually. He is however super athletic, which so far has gotten him through fights.

    That's correct technique, like the old masters of the old school did it.
    The lost arts of boxing had been forgotten. Fury's rediscovered them.

    I must admit that I've been watching boxing for a long time and I've never seen anything like that before.

    Yeah but Roy boxed his entire life so while he was athletic and unorthodox he was also versatile and in his own creative way was very good at setting things up and laying traps. Coming under the jab with his right hand to break Virgil hills ribs, feinted montell griffin into position for a leaping left uppercut.

    Very smart fighter you can tell by his commentary that he has a boxing mind.


    Don't see that with Joshua who is stiff 1-2-3 fighter(although he is improving) or Wilder(who has a sub 80 IQ in boxing and in real life)

    Joshua is such a manufactured boxer, bit like Bruno on slightly less stiff. He has Bruno's problems ....to much muscle- not even stamina due to this & less mobility--- what is boxing s 1st rules hit & dont get hit = Speed & mobility + Fury

    Yep. Bruno had a better jab but Joshua has better survival skills. Bruno froze up when hurt.

    And I really think it's just the poor state of the division that allows Joshua to be a top top guy. If he had several prime guys his own size and build in his division he would be in trouble.

    Bruno had to contend with razor ruddock, ruddock Bowe, Tony tucker, buster douglas, Lennox lewis and etc... A bunch of big strong guys who could punch, fight and box.

    So Bruno doesn't look like anything special in a historical perspective but people think Joshua is special.


    He isn't. The heavyweight division is completely in the gutter and it's only exciting because the only competent boxer damn near threw his career away and damaged his body.

    Lennox could probably still beat half the top 10 RIGHT NOW

    The current HW landscape is a horrific vomit inducing barren wasteland populated by wooden Herman Munster cloned giants, lanky windmilling basketball spastics, and NFL, MMA, Kickboxing rejects, all of whom took up the sport late after transitioning from other sports and are completely devoid of any semblance of skill or boxing ability.

    Fury can actually fight and he actually possesses skills and boxing ability, that's why he stands out like a sore thumb in this hideous current HW era.

    I remember Donkey describing how difficult an opponent Old Man River Ortiz was for him in one interview not so long ago but what he was actually saying (albeit inadvertently) was that Ortiz was the first person he'd ever fought who actually possessed that oh so rare combination of a bit of skill and power and therefore unlike all those other scrubs he'd fought was actually able to punish him when he made any mistakes lol.

    Great points...on Bruno freezing , I always felt he was OK when he wasn't scared ie IMO his best fight was against lewis in Cardiff . He was really up for that & was not a bit scared of Lewis, who was ,arguably (apart from tyson) one of the best fighters he ever faced & TBF did pretty good...for him.

    None of the heavies are great, everyone gets that. But Joshua is at the very least a solid, extremely competent fighter. Can't say the same of either Fury or Wilder though as both are fundamentally flawed. If you combined the best parts of Fury and Wilder perhaps then you'd end up with a great fighter. As it stands NOPE.

    I honestly can't see that....unless he drops some of the muscle & gets a bit more fluid in his movement. never say never , but there is a lot of room for improvement needed. wheras Fury( who I think will lose , hope not but in reality its on the cards) is IMO a more complete "boxer"

    None of these guys won a world belt after 16 fights.
    razor ruddock,Bowe, Tony tucker, buster douglas, Lennox lewis
    AJ did & that's going some Bruno was good but AJ is way above & always will be.
