I more a less agree with Philly Phantom that active fighters should only be judged against retired ones ,once they themselves are retired.
Saying that I feel Usyk is being downplayed for the wrong reasons, some are saying he hasn' t met the guys Marciano faced that's true but he was thrown in the deep end a lot sooner than Rocky ever was.
Let us compare their 1st 16 fights, all that Usyk has amassed.
    Marciano Fight Opponents Record
    16.18-7-0
    15. 9-15-1
    14. 7-10-0
    13. 9-5-0
    12. 4-9-0
    11. 8-5-0
    10. 2-2-0
    9. 0-1-0
    8. 1-4-0
    7. 4-2-0
    6. Debut
    5. 15-0-1
    4. 8-0-0
    3. 1-1-0
    2. 3-5-0
    1 . Debut

    Winning records 6, debutees 2,unbeaten fighters 1.

    Usyk
    Fight
    16.30-20-1
    15.26-0-0
    14.23-0-0
    13.40-4-1
    12.12-0-0
    11.17-2-0

    9.22-1-0
    8.19-4-2
    7.11-1-0
    6.19-6-0
    5.24-5-4
    4.21-8-0
    3.15-9-2
    2.34-15-1
    1.16-7-1

    Winning records,all16!Debutees None.Unbeaten fighters 4.

Now Rockista's will counter by saying well he was world amateur champ. Yes indeed but then you can't have it both ways .

He either has the experience or he hasn't!
In addition Usyk has fought in his home-base Ukraine,Russia,Poland,Germany,Uk,and USA.
13 Of Marciano's 1st 16 fights were in Rhode Island.
He never fought out -side the US.

Wouldn't that be 2 unbeaten fighters? #4 and #5 are both unbeaten

I didn't want to take part in the Marciano - Usyk thread because I don't want to pick against either of these two. Usyk seems like a real force thus far, but I want to see the rest of his career before picking him over somebody like Marciano. Remember the Marciano vs Kovalev threads? The guys picking Kova don't seem so smart now.

Usyk is carving out his own ATG record. I did not like the Usyk vs Louis thread and I do not like the Usyk vs Marciano thread. Let's let Oleksander construct his legacy for another 2-3 years and then we will talk.

As for first 16 fights, there is no doubt that Usyk's are vastly better. That would have something to do with the fact that Usyk is an Olympic gold medalist and had a semi-pro career beating Mezhidov, Nistor, and Joyce in pro-style fights, whereas Marciano had about 25 amateur bouts. What is important is how fighters FINISH.

I made the thread to address the argument that Usyk would be thrown in the deep end with Marciano.I agree fighters should be judged with the benefit of hindsight, ie after they have retired.

Have you ever been to Rhode Island? Very scary place; I wouldn't set foot in it personally.

Their car insurance is very high, so it might be safer walking there than driving there.

You missed the best part...Yankee Stadium in the Bronx! I could have given you a tour of the family neighborhood, visited the REAL Little Italy on Arthur Avenue, and ended up on City Island eating some great seafood.

Maybe in 1975, but not today. It's much safer than other cities ( go ahead and look up the STATS), fantastic cultural life, great sports teams, amazing arts and theatre, scenery awesome along the Hudson River especially in the fall.

There's a reason Amazon chose it as one of its headquarters my friend and it ain't because it's a "cesspool".
