Thought he was way too cautious. Absolutely refused to get in close: was often losing the fight at a distance. I thought myself WTF was his plan going in ? Expecting his opponent to drop from old age ? He let a 41 grandpa push him around the ring for 10 rds: almost paid for it in the 10 th. Curious of the scorecards at the time of the stoppage: it wouldn't have surprised me one bit to see Adonis take a decision had it gone 12.
Haven't seen it yet, but from what I've read all over of how the fight went the actual scorecards are sickening. 98-92 Stevenson!!!! (Canadian judge) 95-95 96-94 They were on route to rob Gvozdyk
Gvozdyk was winning the fight on most people's cards and that ''41 y/o grandpa'' has a stick of dynamite in his left glove, is dangerous a **** and could drop an African elephant if he caught it flush. Fighting Adonis is like walking across a minefield.
That fight plan that Atals put together was a piece of Art. The Nail executed it nearly flawlessly. How he was behind on any card was an absolute travesty. Boxing is indeed dying
The fight i saw was Adonis initiating the exchanges and Gvozdyk reacting to it for the majority part of rounds. Gv never got his distance right and was always tentative, especially when any kind of infighting was attempted. That's not how you win a belt from a 5 year long standing champion fighting in front of his crowd. Adonis from 3 years ago would have won this, sorry to say.
All rds were close and could be called either way. GV was lucky tonight to catch the champion at 41. He was 5 min away from losing a decision.
How did he win these rds ? Apart from the third kd which the referee stole from him, he never had Adonis hurt like say Badou Jack. He was constantly reacting and backing away. I first thought he was saving himself for the second part, but as the fight continued it became apparent it was simply fear of the counters and survival. Do you reckon he left everything in the ring ? Up to the 11 th, i certainly don't.
The fight that I saw, was the same one that @KiwiMan and @PinoyProdigy, Gvozdyk nearly shutting Stevenson out after round 2. Its exactly how you win the belt off of a 5 year long standing champion fighting in front of his crowd, because he ****ing did. Had he fought a hyper aggressive fight that everyone wanted him to fight, he would have risked being KO'd.
