Watched the fight and after reading what a great fight it was I am baffled! One flakey knockdown and a genuine beauty but just another poor Fury fight and Wilder has limited boxing brain just winging shots. Not impressed at all. Anyone else thought it was a rubbish fight?
My Dad was watching the start with me and walked off after a few rounds. The older heavyweights just threw so many more punches. The only one who does that these days is Joyce.
Well it certainly was not a slugfest, and I generally find the HW division a bit of a bore...but I think it was entertaining and a competitive scrap between 2 guys that respect each other more than thier fans do
Will have to watch again, maybe just not in right frame of mind when watched or after watching for nearly 40 years just not easily impressed, who knows?
I guess it is a case of managing expectations.. If you didn't like this fight, then you wouldn't like watching Ali vs Foreman either. Don't know what else to tell you, personally I was gripped from the opening bell, and the feeling that Wilder could end it at any time out of the blue made it exciting to watch. Fury's movement is first class.. the sight of him evading Wilders offense by 1/10th of an inch was crazy. Look also how he controlled the distance. And the twelfth.. well that was just incredible. That sudden explosion from Wilder was frightening, and then the comeback by Fury. It's the stuff of the rocky movies, not real life. Personally, this fight far exceeded my expectations. I was expecting a relatively early KO by Wilder, instead Fury proved me wrong entirely in everything I said or thought prior about this fight, and I am pleased that he did!
Nah enjoyed that fight, maybe just not impressed by these two. Didn't watch any build as I don't for any sports now - just the events. One thing i did notice about Fury is if he had followed up more when Wilder missed with haymakers it could have been a serious drubbing but he's lazy imo or maybe being that big he cannot sustain serious prolonged bursts that sap stamina.
You said you read about the fight before you watched it so it's understandable you didn't get the same excitement as watching without knowing what was going to happen. I was in total suspense and it grew and grew the longer the fight went. And that 12th round, well what can you say? It was epic. You couldn't ask for much more if you want excitement and drama.
