A year of questionable scorecards, high drama, amazing stories, the end of era's & the beginning of new ones.. A memorable 12 months. Boxing is thriving.. Comeback & moment of the year both go to Fury. Fighter of the year Usyk. Fight of the year maybe GGG Canelo II. Give your thought's & insight's into what you have seen & enjoyed....
Usyk is by far the fighter of the year. I've enjoyed the WBC belt no lounger being held hostage by Stevenson, same goes for the KO. I enjoyed the AJ/Povetkin fight. Brutal finish. I have also enjoyed the CW Division (always did, but more so this year).
Yeah big year for Usyk, Inoue, Josh Taylor, Callum Smith, Gvozdyk, Bivol, Fury, Joshua, Lomachenko. But certainly Usyk has been the main star of the year.
Fight of the year has a few contenders and I can't make my mind up.. Fight of the year: Canelo vs GGG II Gassiev vs Dorticos Usyk vs Breidis Lomachenko vs Linares Hurd vs Lara Fighter of the year: Usyk KO of the year: Chisora vs Takam Prospect of the year: Teofimo Lopez Breakout star of the year: Jaime Munguia Upset of the year: Warrington vs Selby Moment of the year: Tyson Fury getting up to fight on in round 12 against Wilder after looking down and out. Laughing stock of the year: Anthony Yarde
Easily. It was one if the greatest WTF moment's in recent memory! My mind was blown, nothing would have surprised me after that, not even if parachute man glided down into the ring & bit Wilders ear off
Year started off with Groves schooling CEJ, that seems like ages ago now .. I forget how satisfying that was too! I'm gunna miss 2018 lol
It's not thriving, every big fight ends in a robbery or ridiculous scorecards It was a good year of boxing looking at the matchups made but judges ruined so many fights this year.
Fantastic year for matchups. Terrible year for outrageous scorecards. If I was an international fighter, I would avoid America at all costs. The results in the last 12 months have been laughable to say the least.
America won most corrupt boxing nation, retaining their title. Id say it aiba took over boxing in america it wouldnt be half as corrupt.
A couple of dubious decisions this year Stateside, which cheapens everything, because what happens in the US filters down to every other country hosting boxing on a consistent basis. US boxing at the elite level is corrupt and for that reason it's difficult to get behind any US based matches. Usyk is definitely fighter of the year. Gassiev, who in my book beats everyone else at Cruiserweight, was made to look a fool. The Bellew fight, well, that was what it was, an easy cash bonus to Usyk. Bellew never had a chance. Fight of the year was Chisora v. Takam. Simply for the drama of a come from behind knock-out win from a fighter who is not famed for knockouts. That moment trumps anything else from this year in my mind, with honorable mention to Golovkin v. Alvarez 2 and Fury v. Wilder.
