Uh, he beat Joe Louis, Joe WalcottX2, Ezzard CharlesX2, Archie Moore, #1 contenders Rex Layne and Roland Lastarza, and #2 contender Don Cockel. Kid Mathews is worth a mention. The best of his generation. Wilder's wins are more along the lines of the guys that Marciano beat coming up the ladder: Phil Muscote, Ted Lowry, Johnny Shkor, Fred Beshore...that level.
There are multiple records at stake here, some major, some minor. The Marciano record is about heavyweight wins in a row first, secondary about number of fights undefeated, 3rd retirement record and 4th retirement record without a draw. So Wilder didn't even make it to the Alabama record for heavyweight wins in a row (41 by Don Steele), can still make the secondary number of fights undefeated, and the heavyweight retirement record if everything works out for him from now on. JCC has the number of wins in a row from debut record (87 I believe), and the undefeated streak record (probably 90 fights). Those are major records.
People count Floyd's 49-0 record despite losses to maidana and Castillo. So why not? True boxing historians know better than what a paper record suggests.
Right, so 9 good opponents? The other 40 opponents in the 50's were what.. Still far better than the boxers wilder faced? You're insane if you think the boxers in the 50's would last 60 seconds with Wilder. Marciano was 5'10.. he's the biggest overrated boxer in history. I say this because Im giving him the same disrespect you give Wilder because its easier to hate on someone you're seeing in your generation. You put rocky on a pedistal because you just see it as beautiful history. If Wilder was boxing in the 50's and was 40-0 39kos and a draw.. and rocky was around now.. I'd bet my bottom dollar you'd be saying 'NO ONE WILL EVER BE AS GOOD AS WILDER.. HE WAS A FREAK OF NATURE.. GO LOOK AT THE HISTORY BOOKS.. HE DOMINATED' I can't stand the hypocrisy. Appreciate Wilder for what he's done and what he will do. Rocky fought literal plumbers. You think guys in the 50's had proper camps and trainers and sponsors.. like even the bums do these days? Go read about the era. Guys were eating spaghetti, training two or three times a week, working full time and beating up their girlfriends at night. The standard of competition back then was appalling. 6'7 African American Deontay Wilder would have absolutely ended Marcianos career in under a round. You're delusional if you think otherwise.
And Wilder fights literal pastry chefs and substitute teachers AS TITLE DEFENSES. You can't stand hypocrisy, but you ARE a hypocrite, and and idiot. Fighters are judged by what they accomplish IN THEIR OWN TIME. Wilder is not a top 50 fighter head to head anyway. He has his chance to be great by what he is accomplishing NOW, which is zero. And who cares that he is African-American? Your big African just got schooled by a pale Irish gypsy, and the entire world knows it. Leave the racism out. POST SCRIPT: If you don't understand that Ezzard Charles, Joe Walcott, Joe Luis and Archie Moore were great fighters, then you are an idiot, pure and simple. Of course, that is already obvious.
