Yeh..we're gonna have a very polite disagreement here LOL ! I'm taking on board your views and trying to re evaluate my original position just to see if I'm wrong. I need to watch it again. Watching it back once you know the outcome always has a different feel. This might become one of those rare fights that I watch many times and always see something different. I think the 2 knock-downs , as significant as they are , can't overshadow the fact that Fury won way more rounds .That's my view at the moment. I did feel at the end that Fury had won by 2-3 points but I had a terrible feeling we were heading for controversy.
I think that card actually squares with your expectation. According to that judge, Wider won the 2 KD rounds plus 2 others: Fury - Wilder 9-10 10-9 10-9 10-9 10-9 10-9 9-10 10-9 8-10 10-9 10-9 8-10 114-112
Fury vs Wilder was more one-sided than Canelo Floyd . . . outside of the knockdowns. Even Floyd said he had Wilder losing every round when he was interviewed at the mid-way point. Of the 10 non-knockdown rounds, Rochin, who had it 115-111 Wilder, scored 5 rounds to Wilder and 5 rounds to Fury, anotherwords a draw minus rounds 9 and 12 which had the KDs. You have to ask yourself what was closer : Rounds 1-8 + 10&11 in Wilder Fury or Floyd vs Canelo. Canelo had a much better work rate vs Floyd than Wilder had vs Fury. Wilder just wasn't active enough vs Fury to win most rounds. Canelo arguably won a number of rounds against Floyd so quantitatively this was worse than Ross.
Alright bro, first thanks for rec’ing this fight, well worth the hour spent enjoying it! A couple of thought contrasting the 2 fights: I will miss HBO as they did a much superior job on the production level than showtime did/does. 2nd even though ESPN has commercials them and Golden Boy did a much better job on the production level and commentary than showtime. Hopkins should be utilized much more and did a great job breaking a fight down. Paulie is the worst “I can’t even do my job” I agree Paulie, no you cannot. Onto the fight. This was as entertaining a fight between 2 prospects as I have seen in quite some time. I did not score it, but wished I had. Going on the eye/gut test I thought Franco won by a smidge.? I thought Oscar was up after 3 with Franco doing better between 4-9, and Oscar taking 10. I can’t say that with certainty again because I did not score it rd by rd. I love the lighter smaller weights as there is so much more skill and action. Just think after 4 rounds they had thrown and landed more than wilder/Fury did in 12 lol. So off of your gut who do you think won this fight?
Gotta agree with this, flicking a back hand jab all night when you could be hurting your opponent seems like a recipe for disaster re it going to the scorecards
It was bad, but not even the worst card of the night. 98-92 Stevenson. What the actual **** was that?
Really? The only round you can really seriously question his card on is round 1 that he gave to Frazier. Other than that his card is on target with the other judges, and observers. He also (along with another judge gave Frazier 13, which seems split in discussions). What round other than 1 do you feel was off point? Here is a link to wiki with rd by rd scoring...where do you feel it was off? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fight_of_the_Century
Man Philly it was a great fight .. so close and I was happy with the Draw .. But how Franco was digging to the body with that power. he gets the nod
Well dear sir, if you compare Recht's scorecard with the other 2, truly, the only thing that sticks out is round 1, and the overall result (11-4 vs 9-6). Problem is, the other 2 judges, despite having the exact same overall result (9-6), disagreed on 6 rounds, which is a peculiar thing in itself, but also makes the comparison useless. If he disagreed with one, then you likely agreed with the other card.
