Evening mark. Just saw your post and wanted a) to defend Frank and b) give my perspective on the Foreman Moorer ko. Frank's jaw was far from dicey. It withstood some pretty heavy artillery from the likes of Bonecrusher, 'Spoon, prime Tyson, Lewis before losing. You wouldn't get Frank out of there with anything less than a sustained shellacking. So what would have happened if he had taken the punch that stopped Moorer? My best guess. Nothing much. Maybe Frank blinks, shakes his head and gets reset before slowly jabbing Foreman's face off. Before people say that's barmy, he did it to Lewis. Back to Foreman v Moorer. No matter how often I watch that I will never think it is a punch worthy of knocking down a heavyweight champ. It is an arm punch with no forward momentum created by footwork. No real snap of the shoulder or bending of the knee. He doesn't even move his feet after throwing the jab. I can't imagine the fight was fixed. I doubt George could have paid Moorer enough to match what he'd earn as champ but it's the weakest looking one punch knockout I can recall seeing. I know there are those on the board who say George had preternatural power but this knockout was one of only two stoppage wins since fighting for the title v Holyfield. This despite being matched against the less than durable likes of Savarese, Grimsley, Morrison, Stewart and Schulz. Big George's power in career 2 is, for me, a myth not supported by his record.
For one thing Lewis was not from an upper class background, he was brought up in a rough part of London and had a cockney accent as a kid, secondly he sounds nothing like Eubank, thirdly you`re right about Eubank having a false toff accent because he also grew up in a really rough area, I don`t where you`re from but you seem to have a rose tinted view of life in London, a lot of blacks struggle here with unemployment and police abuse, silly comments mate.
Foreman punched far harder than Witherspoon and Jumbo Cummings had Bruno out on his feet with one punch, the bell saved him, Frank just didn`t know how to hold or clear his head when hurt, as for Lewis he was awful in his fight v Bruno and was throwing wild rights which is how he got KO`d by MCall. Tyson was not in his prime after Rooney was sacked and was dreadful v Bruno.
What the hell are you talking about? All I meant was I didn't think Lewis sound like he had a Canadian accent and it sounded like some posh English accent but that it made sense that it really was Canadian because of his background of growing up as a adult there. I didn't say **** about what life is like for blacks in London or whether Lewis or Eubank had rough upbringings in London and I don't really care either. You got a chip on your shoulder about where you live? Fine, move but don't talk **** to me about it. I ain't interested.
I'd flip Joshua and Fury, and put Bruno 5th. But Joshua's and Fury's place are by no means static, they can go up or down, with more of a chance of going down I think. 1 ) Lewis 2 ) Fitz 3 ) Joshua 4 ) Fury 5 ) Bruno
Why not? Bruno would easily defeat Tommy Farr. Did I miss someone who should have been #5? Several posters feel Bruno is in the top 5
It doesn't matter whether Bruno could defeat Tommy Farr or not, because we can never ultimately know. Personally I think that Farr would take Bruno into deep water and drown him. What is not in doubt, is that Farr accomplished a lot more, on paper. Before Fury and Joshua came along, I saw the top three as being very clear cut: 1. Lewis 2. Fitzsimmons 3. Farr
I think you need to start a Tommy Farr thread. IMO, he lost too often. Since he fought a lot, he did have a big win or two I grant you that. But why 35 losses, many of which came before and after he meet Joe Louis?
