It fits his previous pattern of picking fights with people who pose less or little threat.

 

He somehow avoided Kovalev, Ward, Bivol, Beterbiev. And got destroyed by Gvodzyk who was the first true top fighter he fought.

The latest news is that Stevenson’s condition has been upgraded to stable.

 

He didn't avoid Kovalev, stop with the revisionist history. Kathy Duva asked for a purse bid. The WBC granted it, and then Duva and Kovalev pulled out of the purse bid they asked for. That wasn't Stevenson's fault. Kovalev's contract with HBO had ran out. He could have took a fight with Stevenson, and then re-upped with HBO afterward. It just shows how biased you are towards the man. Beterbiev was fighting once a year against Cans. That ain't Stevenson's fault either. Bivol was never really an option that I recall.

 

Let's not romanticize the man's reign. He was completely shameful after 2013, which was indeed excellent. In 2013 he was exemplary. He fought Bellew, Cloud, and Dawson 4th, 5th, and 7th ranked in the division. In the next four years he fought only one top ten ranked fighter. He made an agreement with his #1 mandatory to repeatedly pay him step aside money, and then fight whoever he wanted. His finally stepping up and fighting Jack and Gvozdyk was a result of the WBC getting tired of his **** and forcing his hand.
