At those times men did labour work and were physically stronger than todays men. Louis, Dempsey, Sharkey, Schmeling, Tunney and Baer would all beat the current heavyweights. They were too fast and tough for these modern instagram fighters.

No way. People don't wanna hear it but guys like Arreola would be champs then.

Would you not favour Usyk over Miller?

Maybe not Arreola. Louis KOd plenty of guys like Arreola(both in skill and size).

I am a big advocate of "size is overrated". But Dempsey would have been a LHW today, or maybe a small CW. Good luck facing guys like Povetkin.

Would you favor those 1920-40 HWs over Usyk?

Always nice to glorify the past but those guys would get mauled by modern giants. Think of the advancement in technique, conditioning, nutrition and recovery. They’d stand no chance.

That doesn't answer the question. Would you not favour Usyk over Miller?

Right now i am not 100% sure how to think about Miller. My impression after his last two fights (Adamek, Dinu) is simple and easy: I think Miller with 320 lb is damn hard to beat.

My point was - obviously - that you can not compare athletes in 1920-40 with athletes in 2018. Guys today are MASSIVE and HUGE. Only because they worked in a factory 100 years ago doesn't mean they're strong(er).

    Miller's a bad example.
    He's almost completely unproven.

Wilder is skinny, 212 pounds now.
He's one of the best 3 right now. I'd expect him to beat a slow guy like Miller.

I agree with the thread title. The golden age was 1920 to 1940, or thereabouts.

    Globally it's the present.

like on poster was saying alot of these fighters back in the day . if they were fighting today they would cut weight. probably not be a heavyweight. changes everything.

Sweeping statements about eras is pointless imo. Every fight is a case by case unique scenario.

Saying someone is too small wouldn't really cut it for me, Usyk has an excellent chance despite being a CW, Holyfield did unify despite being a CW.

It all comes down to styles.
