Wilder would have been lucky to last three rounds against Tyson, but I think that Fury could have given him some problems. I would argue that Fury has surpassed Bruno somewhat.
I think you can argue Farr and Bruno either way (and Bugner for that matter). Farr's top 3 wins (Baer, Loughran, Neusel) are probably better than Bruno's (McCall, Coetzee, Bugner), but Farr's record is littered with losses, both at world class and below. It's difficult to see Bruno losing to guys on the level of some of those who beat Farr; the Cummings scare aside, Big Frank overwhelmed everyone upto a certain class of opponent. If you want to give fighters credit for how well they do in defeat, I think you rank Farr above Bruno as he performed better in his losses against the elite. I generally don't, which is why I would have Bruno slightly above Farr.
I hate to say it, but Fury is probably as smart a boxer, as we have ever seen in a man his size. He was much better technically than Bruno, and probably Tucker as well. He doesn't have the power to bother Tyson, but he would probably pick up on Tyson's weaknesses, such as being easy to frustrate in the clinches. Tyson would have his hands full!
Fury`s defensive skills are far better than Ruddock or Golota`s were and Tyson wasn`t the uncrowned champ during the 90`s because Holyfield was so much better than him by that stage and Bowe did far better against Holy in their 3 fights than Tyson could in `96, he was awful in those bouts.
Dempsey would have lost to Fury because as he used to crouch forwards while coming in he brought his head down bringing it closer to Tunney`s jab which was nowhere near as long as Fury`s jab, Fury has an 85 inch reach and exploits distance brilliantly.
In fairness to Farr, he turned pro at 13 (!) and a lot of those losses and draws were before his 20th birthday. I'm sure if Bruno turned pro in similar circumstances his record would be spottier too. Incredible to think that Farr was only 24 going into his Louis title challenge and had already had well over 100 bouts.
I saw a lot of Bruno live,he was very conservatively matched. As you say Farr was thrown in at the deep end early in his career.
Appreciate that, but I'm not really talking about his teenage losses. Even in his early 20s he was losing to domestic level opposition. It's unlikely that even as a neo pro Bruno would be losing to the Jack Caseys, Dave Carstens and Charley Belangers of this world, and Bruno was only 23 when he was a round away from beating a future WBA champ. It's also difficult seeing Bruno losing in his prime against a Burman level opponent. I think there has to be a balance between not discrediting Farr based on losses outside of this prime, and not conveniently narrowing the scope of his prime down to a period when he wasn't losing regularly. That said, I don't have an issue with anyone ranking Farr above Bruno. It's a tough call either way in my view.
Joshua did not face world champion Klitschko, he faced beaten former champion who had been out for a year and was 41.
Look I am usually the one defending Willard here, but Fury is a much better technician. I didn't think much of Fury early in his professional career, and didn't expect him to go much beyond Euro level, but somewhere along the line he put it all together. He is a master ring general, who makes superb use of angles and movement, and very good at anticipating his opponents next move. I agree that the right puncher would beat him, and I would expect Tyson to beat him, but it might be a more interesting fight than you think.
Willard couldn`t move at all or slip shots! Wilder would have finished Willard in a round, he was awful, no jab or anything.
F Fury would have comeback from the right hand that Lewis finished Ruddock off with and would have fought back and won easily against pre-Steward Lewis, he was awful! Tyson was dreradful against Holy and couldn`t hurt him, he got dominated in the rematch and when Holy beat Bowe in their rematch was when he jumped in front of Tyson in the pecking order, he was far bette in that rematch compared to his reckless perfoermance in the first Bowe match and he put on a ton of weight, he completely bullied the weaker Tyson.
