Just reading an article on World Boxing News.

It is expected that the PPV sales in the US will be pushing 400,000 (Not sure if this includes UK Buys). This would be the biggest for a Heavyweight fight since 2003.

I would assume the rematch would breeze past that figure, so must be a massive positive for the rematch happening?

Massive figure if it doesn't include UK PPV buys. $75 for a US PPV remember. Let's wait and see.

A rematch does at least 25% more buys IMO. There's huge money in a rematch so I see the desire to fight AJ being less so. Don't forget there's UK PPV money too which would be massive for a Wilder/Fury rematch.

Wilder mentioned "striking while the iron is hot". I think that's the way to go. It's a hot topic, announce it early in the new year. It'll be huge in the US and the UK. Both markets cracked!!

Read somewhere US Showtime did 300k. So potentially it leaves 100k to the UK.

Given the fight was at silly o clock probably not the worst?

I think Espinoza said beforehand that he'd be very happy with 350k. I don't know whether he was managing expectations slightly, but if it's over 400k then its surely good news for a fight with 2 guys who had never been on PPV before.

Big question for me is how much of that was down to Fury as a dance partner. Personally the single best promotion in the entire build-up was Fury's interview with Rogan.

Would Wilder be able to now do similar or better figures against Breazeale or perhaps Ortiz?

Even with those figures it does not pay Wilder nearly as much a fight with Joshua in the UK would. He really has two options take the Fury fight and take home $15m against a better fury or take home a minimum of $20m in a winnable fight against Joshua. I think he will go the Fury route on advice from Haymon etc. As I believe they want to keep showtime PPV going. Even if Wilder loses they could potentially build Fury into a PPV star out there.

If the US PPV buys are over 300,000 which they seem to be, then Wilder has earned about $15 million dollars for the first Fury fight. That could almost double in a rematch in Las Vegas. Would he really earn $25 million dollars + to fight AJ in the UK? I don't think so.

This has shifted the landscape somewhat because Wilder/Fury 2 now does big ppv numbers in the US and the UK. Rematch could do at least 500k in UK and 500k in US. Thats a lot more money than the 1 million UK ppv buys AJ fights do. AJ v Wilder or Fury does possibly 2 million UK buys now but the dependency on AJ for a truck load of cash is gone!

How did you arrive at 'Wilder has earned about $15m?'

300k buys at $74.99 equates to a pot of $22.5m. Wilder needs around half of that to bump his guarantee up to fifteen million. That seems pretty steep doesn't it?

Showtime said both fighters would earn 8 figures if the fight done 250k. Wilder has a higher % than Fury. 300k+ surely brings those 8 figures close to 15 million. The gate for this fight was pretty big.

Also remember that pot isn't all for the fighter.

    https://www.boxinginsider.com/columns/business-of-boxing-how-does-the-pay-per-view-deal-work/

The standard breakdown as far as money is concerned is a 10% fee off the top for the distributor, with 45% each for the cable system and the promoter. So when you see a price tag on a fight, you know that the promoter will get about 45% of that.

Hope the rematch happens on the date Joshua fights...that will really mess things up for team Hearn.

If i had to pick over Fury/Wilder or Joshua/Whyte im choosingthe Fury fight all day!
