Another vote for robberies. What utter bull**** that everybody can SEE that one fighter clearly won, yet three blind mice get to dictate the outcome and the flow of the sport. There's guys out there that should have much better records than they have because, you know, "house fighter" and all that, and there's guys out there who are overrated because they consistently get wins that they should not have, or might have dropped. All the A-Side shennanigans and ducking and manipulating the terms of the fight are bad enough, but when a fighter just has to be vertical at the end of the fight to win, then its not a fight anymore but fight-based entertainment like WWE. **** that ****.
Most of us hate robbery the most because it can ruin boxing sport sooner or later. Judges are paid to make boxing fans feel bad. I am so sick and tired of this. The ones behind this are promoters and managers who do not want their prospects to get beaten. They, however, pretend to not know that they are destroying the sport now.
The best not fighting the best. Thurman was Floyd's mandatory for two years. Manny & Floyd went at it 5 years too late. Lopez & Gamboa are now meeting up many years later. Joshua and Wilder won't happen. Canelo could face Jacobs, yet faces Fielding! SMH. Billy Joe won't face a live fighter. Danny Garcia wouldn't fight a live wire for years. Stevenson avoided Kovalev like the plague and held the WBC Belt hostage for years.
Terrible example for a fighter who hasn't taken on "the best". Canelo just came off back to back fights with "The Best". No fighter has shown the desire to seek out "the best" and fight them more than Canelo has. That's why he has several close fights that many feel he lost. You don't have multiple of those kinds of close decisions if you are not fighting the best fighter you could possibly fight on so many different occasions. He's fighting Fielding a full weight division above where he just beat "The Best" Middleweight at. Moving up in weight is a feat in it of itself, so while Fielding certainly isn't "The Best" he is a title holder and it's a division above, and the fight is less than 3 months since fighting GGG so it's nothing to complain about.
Because it greatly affects the way fighters fight when they know the exact score. (and not in a good way) If a fighter knows he is ahead by more points than there are rounds left, he has more of a propensity to run, stall or not engage as much as he otherwise would. You don't want judges scoring determining how the actual fight is fought. If there's a robbery, it's better that it happens after the fight is over with instead of during it.
Yes but I'd want to know the scores if i thought i was clearly winning only to find i was being robbed. At least then i can attempt to change the fight instead of coasting to what i think is an easy victory only to find out after that I've been done over.
If being sat next to some pissed up ***** who is on the verge of vomiting/ or angry roid head at Matchroom shows was available I'd have voted for that.
But it works both ways. If you were told you were losing or being robbed half way through or after 8 rounds, so would your opponent. If a title was on the line lets say, he'd know that all he has to do is avoid a knockdown in the last 4 rounds and he'll win the fight or get the belts. With that exact knowledge, you're giving the fighter who's winning real incentive to "coast" to the final bell. Without that knowledge, both fighters will continue to fight hard till the end with the scoring an unknown.
Well a fighter who is winning clearly will know that they are winning clearly 9 times out of 10, they would coast any way even if they didn't know the scores.
But not if he was being robbed . That's what creates the robbery. Most of the time if a fighter is clearly winning he's clearly winning the cards. Fighters can usually tell if rounds are close enough to "not know for sure if you are winning". You might think you are winning, but not knowing keeps the fight going naturally as it would. If you start announcing judges scores you are injecting them directly into the fight itself.
