Do you have more respect for defensive boxers after what’s happened to Stevenson?

Injuries like these have been around for a long time but people still hate on guys like Ward, Mayweather, Lara, Rigondeaux, etc throughout their career due to their overly defensive style and spoiler tactics. Surely you guys have more more respect towards them after seeing the current state that Adonis Stevenson is in now?
I’ll admit I have been critical to some defensive fighters who are unwilling to take risks, but I also acknowledge why they use defensive skills as a way of avoiding any life threatening injuries. Boxing injuries are NO joke period.

You can drop Rico from the list unless you consider quitting a defensive tactic. Je should have took his beating

I have respect for all fighters, since it’s an extremely difficult way to make a living.

That said guys have to know when to hang it up. Stevenson looked old and completely on his last legs when he fought Jack. I think he should’ve took that draw as a sign that his time was up. In the fight with Gvozdyk I had Stevenson competitive in the first two rounds, but afterwards he was breathing with his mouth wide open the rest of the fight and in my opinion was barely surviving.

Also, all fighters suffer some permanent damage if they fight long enough. Defensive specialist like Floyd etc. are no exception.

I remember Foreman being asked what a young man should do to best prepare for a fight career and he said to plan for memory loss or some form of brain damage. Foreman said the trade off for the things he was able to accomplish made it worth it for him, but admitted that might not be the case for other people.

Yes cause there is room for guys like Mayweather and it can’t be easy or there would be more.
I’d hate to see someone like Golovkin suffer from taking needless punches.

Let’s not forget Wilder makes jokes about this.

**** no. Those guys are ***** cowards. I hate them like poison. Get out of my sport you ***** made punks. They aren't smart. They're weasels who lack the guts to fight like men. How you box reveals who you are and your philosophy. These guys were mostly greedy opportunists who would never take risks, who wanted to extract the most money out of the sport while doing the least work possible. Boxing was nothing more than a hustle or a con for them, and the fans were a bunch of rubes to be taken.

Ward the guy who used the top of his dome as a battering ram and a third weapon? His elbows as fourth and fifth ones? Andre SOG Ward the ''devout Christian''? Boxing is already dangerous enough with the 2 legal weapons the rules permit fighters to use.

    Nah not really.

I can appreciate a defensive fighter when he's using defense to set up offense. When he's Rigo and simply stinking the joint out time and again making damn sure no action happens, I don't want to watch.

Stevenson's injury just makes me respect the guys who go toe to toe. It's a tough way to make a living.

They're leeches of the sport. They took so much from boxing (money, fame, wealth), but gave so much less in return.

Smart guys, but bad for the sport. Boxing is basically the exploitation of fighters by fans to see who can overcome the most, who can take the most adversity and pain. And those guys did the complete opposite.
