Was Moorer overrated by some fans at light heavy while he was WBO champ at 175?

I know for a fact Moorer's biceps were smaller than Rambo's. That alone says he's overrated for me!

    • For Rambo II, Stallone’s body measurements were height-5’10” or 178 cm; chest- 50″; waist-29.5″; biceps-17″; body fat-4.5% peak; body fat average-6%
    • Stallone`s biceps were bigger than Ali`s at one point because Ali`s biceps were measured at 15 inches during his reign as champ in the 60`s. lol!

    You are correct.

Back then, Everybody thought Moorer was exciting but still unproven against the best at 175 lbs.

Somehow, he has become a mythical 175 lb beast on here

Moorer simply did not fight long enough at LH or against the truly top guys to know for sure but based on his success at heavyweight most would think he would do quite well against any in the division. MM vs Hill would have been a fascinating matchup. I remember seeing interviews with Manny Steward where he said no one wanted to fight MM back in those days because of what he would do to people at Kronk. He had a rep for crushing sparring partners.

He had a lot of power the way he set down and punched and he was one of the strongest 175 pound guys ever.

When a fighter goes above his best weight and has a measure of success...then we can assume that said fighter must have been pretty good at his natural weight.

Yet even then he didn't have the best chin when he was hit. I think Leslie Stewart rocked him when Stewart was way past his prime.

You need more than power in boxing though.

He did have much more than just power. If he didn't he never would have been a three time heavyweight champ. Good combination puncher with an excellent jab. Tons of heart as well. Climbed of the deck multiple times (see Cooper/Holyfield fights).

I feel there were a lot of far better light heavy champs down the years though.

No. You judge him on the quality of his competition and how he fared at 175 lbs- just like any other fighter.

Yes, and Swindell rocked him as well. He had a good but not great or impenetrable chin at 175 lbs. That is an important factor to consider, as his defense was average at 175 lbs, and he stood right in front of is opponents.
