Deontay Wilder has admitted changes need to be made before a rematch with Tyson Fury takes place next summer. The pair of heavyweight stars will do it again following a Fight of the Year contender last weekend. Fury largely dominated rounds where Wilder failed to score a knockdown and the ‘Bronze Bomber’ will alter his tactics accordingly. “There’s a lot of things I’m going to go back and adjust. I didn’t do what I was supposed to do and I bent the gameplan,” Wilder told Sirius XM Radio. “I know everything I need to do. The rematch will prove it all. We’re still the champion. I’m the man.” He continued: “Nothing he did affected me. The punches didn’t affect me. I was fighting myself and him. I take nothing away from Fury and he made this fight great. “We knew what he was going to bring to the table. I made this fight way harder than it needed to be. “Trust me. We got it. My mind was locked on that [on KO’ing him]. I’ve learned my lesson. Second time around it’ll be a lot different. “I won’t let my emotions get the best of me. It was a great event and I wanted to end it as that. So wilder says he won the fight but needs to make a lot of changes?? Ok!

If / when it happens, Fury needs to adjust, and Freddy Roach is the man to do it. Roach is keen, and although Ben Davison did a great job, he needs to step aside for Roach to come in. Dodging / slipping punches is NOT enough, and Roach will change Fury's style to punishing Wilder hard when he misses with his wild swings, not just slipping. It's what made Mayweather great and is the reason why Pacquiao is probably the best ever. You make your opponent miss and you counter hard, you don't just slip and make your opponent look stupid. That's not enough. If you think the Pacquiao comment is over the top, watch the Morales fights. Pacquaio changed his style to bring the right hand in for fights 2 and 3, and blew Morales away. Pacquiao changed, Morales didn't. The man behind that? Freddy Genius Roach. Wilder IS a one trick pony, but his trick is very fast and hard. If Fury's going to beat him, he needs to change. Fury won the first one, but has to adjust now to move up further into elite level boxing. Also, let's be honest Tyson could get rid of that ring of fat around his waist and develop more muscle power. He's got the frame for it, and maybe then he would really hurt Wilder with punches the way Wilder as the smaller man hurt him!
Morales did change. It was his last prime performance and it pushed him over the edge. Infact you can almost see it happen in that 12th round where he fought Pac southpaw, he took some big big shots. Also I think that after the first Morales fight was when Pac really blatantly started hitting those ariza shakes right until the Margarito fight I do agree with your points about how fury could improve
Fair point, Morales did change but not nearly as much as Pacquaio who radically changed his style in a matter of months to use the right hand a lot more. Also, Ben Davison between the rounds was giving Tyson some very good advice and pointers to be fair. Roach could add to that and give an extra dimension. Ben Davison should stay on, but Roach should be given more room.
Yes. He's going to morph into a prime Holmes/Ali hybrid and masterfully dance and outjab Fury to a wide points win. He's learned his lesson. No more mindless haymakers and falling over his own feet. You'll be shocked at the changes he makes.
a 70% out of shape Fury took Wilder to school, Fury is unpredictable theres nothing Wilder can go away and do to make his performance any better because he has limited skills and his only hope is power. If fury can box the exact same fight but avoid the knockdowns he wins its as simple as that.
Wilder has a low ceiling for improvement. Yes, he has lots of room to improve but it is limited by his faith in the right hand. So, all at once he is going to become a boxer? Nah, ain't buying it. Best to stick with the one thing he has. He can knock Fury out. Apparently Fury has a very good chin. In the rematch, I'm going with Fury. Wilder will have the same chance of a ko he had in the first fight. The more versatile fighter can have a better chance at both a ko and/or a points win. You learn a lot when you fight someone for 36 minutes. The combination of lessons learned combined with a steady improvement for Fury increases his chances of victory. Wilder's remain approximately the same.
It’s funny because Wilders right hand has been the making of his career yet his overdepndance on it could now be his downfall.
