I hope it isnt isnt all hot air. I can see it being 3 or 4 shows in the UK then the rights of the big american cards. I can also see ITV showing some of these fights as repeat shows after the event has taken place. The only UK fighters PBC have on their website are DeGale, Framton, Joyce, Khan and Selby. Who else could they sign that is available? Groves, Chisora, who else could they get?
The man at the top of BT has pulled the plug on the cast sums forked out by BT on Sports - looks like an orderly withdrawal is in process. BT recently lost all the Jock football and the small sum Sky paid for a season was less than 3 Premier League games. If BT cannot even win the rights to Jock football then that is a statement of no intent if I ever seen one.
If there's actually prime time free to air boxing on a terrestrial channel that would be great for the sport. Channel 5 and the occasional odd fight on Spike I think have been the only instances of boxing on free to view tv recently. If it's centred around making Eubanks Jr a PPV star however count me out. That ship has sailed. Would like to see the US PBC cards however.
It's good news if any half decent fight isnt ppv. The fact Eubank v Quinlan was a headline on itv ppv worries me. If i was Haymon I would be after Fury, as he's a big name both sides of the pound.
Didn't Fury have a three fight deal with BT? And Khan has one fight left with matchroom. Both names either side of the Atlantic
This really... Whilst this announcement sounds good I can work out how it's going to work. Pbc don't have enough British fighters to put on in the evening and fill a card. Which would leave the American pbc cards. How would itv show them? At 5 o clock in the morning? I wonder if Poxon is still invloved?
The sky model clearly works better. Look at the twitter followings for some matchroom undercard fighters compared to queensbury ones. Sky use social media AND traditional media which does still work very well. SSN might get low ratings each hour but they repeat the stuff all the time so it adds up
At the minute we have hardly any boxing on free to air channels so I'm pleased with the announcement. Hopefully ITV have learnt from the WBSS and won't try to rip fans off at the first given opportunity. Interesting times
I dont think it will be mainly ppv....PBC buy up air time and take the advert money i think....Nobody in UK will buy a Gevonta Davis ppv or similar....but i could see a double bill of ppv in UK and a USA card later... It is Boxnation i feel sorry for...years and years of making the blueprint only to be swallowed up by the big fish
