Prime Oscar Bonavena vs Prime Tyson

Tyson wasn't a sharpshooter like Jimmy Ellis...Bonavena wasn't at all on the low level of Botha,...a mixed up gutless fruitcake like Golota....Ringo knew distance very well, like he showed prime Joe Frazier in their '68 15 round rematch, and of course, he nearly ended it in their 1966 10 rounder,...I think he would have been shifty and awkwardly clever vs Tyson like was vs Chuvalo...Oscar could have gotten decked, but I doubt it...he was tough, stronger that Mike, and I think...my humble opinion,...that he would have survived to the distance...12 or 15...and surprised everyone, like he often did in his day.

 

How in the hell can you equate Tyson with Ellis?

Ellis was a sharpshooter. He threw fast, accurate punches, especially early. Doing that, he had Oscar on the run and on the deck twice! Tyson was much more of a sharpshooter, throwing lightening fast and devastating combonations, which made Ellis look like a powder puncher in comparison. Mike would utterly destroy Oscar quickly.

 

I get a kick out of Bonevena but I see this as another Berbick like KO for Mike ...

 

Tyson fantasy, fanboy BS.

Bonavena was as durable as ****. Tyson outclasses him but a quickie KO or blowout is highly, highly unlikely given Oscars proven track record. A sole, likely flukey 15th round stoppage was his only inside the distance loss in nearly 70 fights.

I don't see a blowout or quickie KO as likely possibility here at all. Probably Tyson (like nigh on everyone who fought Bonavena) finds him as awkward and difficult as hell until his advantages in speed and accuracy see him work Oscar over and force a late referee stoppage somewhere between rounds 9-12. I wouldn't be surprised if Oscar remained on his feet the whole fight though.

 

Ellis didn’t find Oscar awkward and difficult. Neither did Zora in their first fight. Oscar had to box and move to beat the often defeated Chuvalo. He lost to an elderly Patterson. Bonavena was rough and tough, but
His claim to fame is that Frazier and Ali struggled with him. Quarry, though, had a much better resume than Oscar. Tyson would Demolish him in one.

 

That's your view. I don't buy it but who knows.

I tend to believe a guy with a proven track record of durability, toughness, awkwardness and an ability to survive doesn't just fold in a round when there's absolutely zero evidence of it ever occurring in his career.

 

Bonavena is a type of guy you don't wanna mess with, tough and strong .. But against Tyson he gets obliterated early ..
