The fight I remember for this topic is Vitali vs Timo Hoffmann. Hoffmann is similar in height and weight to fury. He lost almost all rounds to Vitali but had his moments and gave Vitali a black eye. He was also Vitalis first opponent to not be kayoed. Fury is so much better than Hoffmann that I really give him a shot at uding klitschko.
Vitali. Fury is effective because he plays mind games with his feints and twitches and jerks. He tries to counter or potshot and then is gone. Thing is Vitali isn't really going to care about getting hit by a featherfist like Fury - and ergo isnt going to care too much about the feints - and he himself has a high workrate, high accuracy and great chin. I take Vitali probably on points, because Fury is going to run all night.
Fury is awkward just like Vitali. Also Vitali would miss a lot, he missed a ton vs. Byrd but part of that might be due to torn rotator cuff. In favor of Vitali is his immense workrate. He throws a lot; Fury throws next to nothing.
Vitali isn't Wlad, he does a lot of things that would help him vs Fury that Wlad didn't. Firstly he's more aggressive, throws a lot more, knows how to counter punch and has far better lateral movement. Remember Vitali was out boxing Lennox Lewis, Vitali for me was always the more skilled of the 2 brothers and definitely more well rounded, with greater variety, this is a much tougher fight for Fury that Wlad. But Vitali never fought anyone like Fury, a bigger guy who could beat him from range and who moved as well as Fury does. Vitali was used to picking off and countering smaller men coming to him, he wasn't really a seek and destroy fighter which he might need to be to beat Fury. Vitali will need to impose his superior work rate if he's to beat him, he could grind him down and overwhelm him late. But work rate can be killed via movement the one thing Fury does so well. Can Vitali cut the ring off on Fury enough to be able to throw anywhere near his normal number of punches? I hate to say it as a Vitali fan and someone who has rooted against Fury in every fight, but I think Fury might beat him via a close decision.
I agree if we talk about Vitali post his near career ending shoulder injury. He became far more predictable and his selection of punches became more limited. Before his first retirement he could throw every punch in the book and would throw them in spades. Vitali, just like Fury, is unpredictable and a master of finding range and dictating the rhytm of a fight. The biggest decider comes down to pure conditioning. When have we ever seen Fury being able to maintain a pace like Vitali could? The answer is never. And until then, my pick is safely with the older Klitschko.
I think that Vitali is one of the most overrated boxers ever. He did not beat any ATG boxers. Only great he ever faced was Lewis and he lost. He was even struggling against Chisora. Sometimes I think he gets credit of his brothers wins as well. On the other hand I don't think Fury is anything special either. Very big guy who is technically sound but can not punch very hard. I say that Vitali wins this by KO or Fury by decision.
All this is true. And more. The reason I didn't mention any of it is because, as I said in the post, it's obvious.
He looked the same to me pre and post Chris Byrd. His list of opponents before Byrd are all soup cans and everybody looks good on the way up against cans. Lewis and Byrd exposed his inability to box in close. He literally did not have a punch in the book when he was up close in those two fights. He had a 1-2 against Lewis , and a 1-2 / shovel uppercut (that missed everytime he threw it) against Byrd , that's it. He wasn't unpredictable , he was very predictable with the same pattern of attack over and over. 1-2 , step off / rince and repeat. The likes of Obhed Sullivan and Louis Monaco aren't the gauge of any mans abilities and certainly not the names you would mention as evidence why somebody could beat a near master boxer like Fury. You want to see every punch in the book being thrown , watch Fury against Kevin Johnson. He painted him up and down with leather , hitting him with pretty much everything he threw , while Vitali looked slow /combersome against Johnson and consonantly missed him with his right hand. Vitali had a good pace against small slow guys who he had total control over. That doesn't mean he'd work Fury over with the same pace. Rob Brant produced a crazy pace against Murata , but he obviously wouldn't be able to replicate it against Billy Joe Saunders. The majority of guys Vitali fought were his bread n butter and they made him look way better than he really was. Im not saying he was bad , he was great against a certain level , but as the Byrd fight proved , he has trouble with guys who move and have slick awkward skills. You can say he was injured , but he went into the fight injury free and while he was healthy , Byrd never looked out of his depth or in any sort of trouble. Its possible he caused the injury by making him miss so many punches. Its not hard to see Fury doing the same.
Vitali had only 2 opponents during his whole career which were physically on his level: 1) Lennox Lewis (size: 196 cm / 6 feet 5 inches; reach 213 cm / 84 inches) 2) Timo "The German Oak" Hoffmann (size: 202 cm / 6 ft 7 3/4 inches; reach unknown, but likely about 79 inches) Lewis connected about 3-4 times with full forced punches and Vitalis face looked like a hand granade was exploded in his face. Hoffmann connected about 10 times since he is so tall, but he dont has much punching power, but it was enough to make Vitalis face swollen: This content is protected https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/...r2YEpCDSZqkw1HMPr14TomvjEYtT9nkdTcwy_HeiG3OTw https://media.gettyimages.com/photo...=q2Rl_49FB0rLZnouU7BI4GJY31L99VKLDWqKLVgHd0M= Vitali has a great chin but a very weak skin. And his defense is not that great against tall guys. Lewis is an all time great, but Hoffmann is a plumer with very good chin but no punching power and no skill, but he was able to bruise Vitalis face. Fury is much more skilled than Hoffmann. All results are possible, UD Vitali or UD Fury, i don t believe in a KO.
I 100% agree. He will make Vitali look silly and counter him all night long. People forget Vitali is one of the easiest boxers to hit. His face will be a dart board for Fury and the aggressive Vitali will do a 180 when he has been hit over after 3 rounds.
That will mean your mum lmao! She aint worth it anyway so I wont be too bothered what Vitali does to her.
