Say what u want about him but this man's ability to take a punch was super human. He ate Miguel Cotto's left hook flush over and over and just smiled at him. In the Mosely fight he was ko'd, but it wasn't until Mosley landed about 100 clean powerful right hands on his jaw. I'd say its a toss up between him and George Chuvalo for greatest chins ive ever seen.
Ali took Shavers best shots and P4P Earnie punched harder than anyone Antonio fought, Hearns was also a harderr puncher P4P than anyone AM met, yet Hagler ate some of his lauded right hands flush.
Took a lot of shots of Mugabi though and he only won fights by KO at light middle and he carried his punch up.
Don't forget Wayne McCullough. His chin was simply incredible especially when you factor in his fighting style. Lot's of fighters just teed off on his chin but he never visibly staggered or went down from memory. Even his stoppage losses were basically him being saved from himself.
Hes never had fights where he just stood still and covered up for large portions of time. Who did Mugabi knock out at middleweight, exactly? In fact who did he knock out?
Yes ODLH did have a hell of a chin, but the best chins were not the top contenders with talent to offset the fight like a OLDH or even a MMH whom had one of the top chins as well but to me those nameless journeymen with little talent, poor/average defense that fought every name fighter going up through the ranks....Chuvalo is one of these guys the clean shots he took from Foreman is something else....his defense was average he was short to average height and his power was good but not top tier he did everything well nothing great except take punches......to me Chuvalo was like the nameless journeymen. Sakio Bika's chin warrants a mention. It seldom gets brought up in these dicussions but in fights with Bute, Codrington, Anthony Dirrell, Adonis Stevenson and also Ward and Calzaghe he proved it's quality.
