    This.

Fighter A could defeat Fighter B even if he landed significantly less strikes. He could win 7 rounds by landing a few punches more than his opponent, and in the 5 rounds he lost, he might have landed a dozen less punches than his opponent .

You would think this would be obvious to people on a boxing forum but I often see people screaming blue murder over in the general that total punches landed is the be all and end all.

Leonard won it close. He fought a smart fight. He used his quickness and took some good shots he always answered back.

Hagler gave the fight away before they ever stepped in the ring. Why on earth would you give Sugar the bigger ring, bigger gloves and less rounds is insane. Hagler underestimated Ray.

It shows you round by round on the vid I posted and Marvin spanked him, I was shocked.

I`ve read some fans on this forum comparing Ray to some modern elite middles like GGG, Ray would have been destroyed by GGG and I feel Canelo would have beaten him at 160 also.

No this isn`t judges counting the punches on the vid, it`s a youtuber who shows you which landed and which were blocked, he pauses with the blocks and punches that are low or landed with wrong part of the glove stating 'slap' or 'block' etc.

Yes, I know it is a Youtuber and not the judges. And judging from only the first round he has no clue. He scored two arm punches scored in a clinch as two punches landed for Hagler. But those kinds of punches isn't scored by anyone who knows anything about scoring, so that might be why his punch count differ from most people's scoring of the fight.

    Behave.

The only thing that's shocking, is your obsession with these types of videos.

You've got an unhealthy obsession with Quora, statistics, and nuts on YouTube who have an agenda with no real knowledge of the sport.

We don't need to see a 15 min compilation.

    The full fight is available.

    Marvin spanked nobody.

Ray got into his head, and he gave away the first 4 rounds by not fighting southpaw.

Gil Clancy amongst others were very surprised. He played straight into Ray's hands.

On a P4P basis, GG is nowhere near the level of Ray. Nowhere near.

In a H2H fight at MW, I'd still have to give Ray a huge chance due to his speed and skills.

GG has done nothing out of the ordinary at the weight. He's beaten who's he's supposed to have and he's struggled with his 2 best opponents. He's tough, he's exciting, he cuts the ring off great, but he's also very easy to hit with a small reach.

Ray would have caused him and Canelo huge issues.

Hagler most definitely made prefight concessions as he angled for a bigger purse...but once the opening bell rang he still had every opportunity to win that fight. He simply didn’t do enough.

As most said, Hagler gives most of the early rounds away fighting orthodox and by the time he finally starts picking up momentum....he’s already way down on the cards.

As Hagler ups the pace later on, Ray begins to fade...but at no point does he fully take over the fight. Ray was right there every step of the way to counter back with a flurry of his own or to circle out, catch his breath or get his legs back, then throw a little leather.

I used to score this one narrowly for Marvin when I started following the sport...maybe because I wished that was the result. But the last dozen or so times I’ve watched this I always seem to have it 115-113 for Leonard. No YouTube video is gonna change that.

I did notice that actually, there were times when they were in a bit of a clinch and Marvin was just almost tapping Ray`s stomach.

What is GGG`s reach because his jab is one of te best I`ve seen and he slips tons of shots, his judgement of distance is astounding.

I did here Clancy express surprise when Marvin started as an orthodox fighter and he added in training that Ray couldn`t deal with soutpaws very well.

Hagler and his trainers have no one to blame but themselves. I never understood why Hagler didn't go at Leonard the way he went at Hearns (a far more dangerous puncher by the way) In my opinion he should've pushed Leonard ,see if those legs that had been on the shelf for almost 5 yrs can carry him a 12 HARD rds. He let Leonard control the tempo most of the fight, he let Leonard gain confidence and start believing he can actually win by starting passively. That's all on him and his team! The Leonard haters come up with all the excuses for Hagler but the right one.Hold accountable Hagler and his team.
