I feel Jones was poor v te 39 year old McCallum early on in there light heavy fight in 1997 and that there were other light heavy champs who would have outclassed Mike from start to finish at light heavy, but Jones started shaky and nervous v Mike in their title bout, I feel this proves McCallum may have beaten Jones at 154-160 in his prime, were there any light heavy greats that would have beaten McCallum at 175 in better fashion than Roy did?

    He wasn't poor.

    He was just cautious.

It was his first fight at LHW, against a wily vet who he had great respect for.

He knocked him down twice and won almost every round.

It wasn't a close fight in any way.

Sure, you could name great LHW's of the past who could have been more agressive etc. But LHW was Roy's 3rd weight class.

You seem fixated on fights like this.

Could I not ask a question such as:

Who could have beaten Castillo more convincingly than Floyd?

He won every round on all three official judges' cards, actually.

Most of the great LHW's would have dominated that version of McCallum - He was close to 10 years past his prime and two divisions above his natural weight. McCallum was an ATG MW but at LHW and at almost 40 years old he would never have been more than a contender against the greats of 175.

I am not a fan of RJJ but he fought a brilliant fight. He pitched a near shutout on nearly every rational card. Is a kO more impressive than a one sided decision?

McCallum was still very crafty at this stage although well removed from his prime. I don’t think many top tier guys will underestimate him if they were wise.

I guess Foster and Moore might stop him...but it seems your dislike of RJJ is reaching epic proportions

Seems to over critique everyone but Lomo and Mayweather Jr. Seems to have a major agenda.

Yes and no. The Florida commission didn’t want to use wbc judges and all 3 scored every rd for Jones 120-107. Suliaman appointed 3 wbc judges and they were 119-108, 117-110, 116-111...I am a McCallum fan and I would have trouble giving more than 1 to Mike.

I am also, But Jones clearly won that fight, and if Jones had the aggression of a Foster, Qawi,Holyfield, Or Franklin, he would've stopped Mccallum more than likely.

Another load of rot. It's well known that Jones was a huge fan of McCallum and it's obvious he went thru the motions.

LOL at McCallum beating Jones in his prime. Guys like McCallum and Toney are made for Jones.

I would go so far as to say if Jones truly wanted to he could have stopped McCallum.

Yes that makes sense, but I still feel Floyd was better than Roy P4P when you look at teir moves, Floyd had far more savvy than Roy, I feel.

No way, even Jackson couldn`t stop McCallum at light middle and he was P4P the hardest puncher in history unless you arte just talking about the 39 year old out of shape light heavy McCallum.

The state commission was responsible for appointing the judges, so the WBC people scored it as fans (i'm not sure they were even sitting in the first row, I think I recall they were a couple of rows away from the ring, third row or something), not as official judges.

I feel Roy had the tools to be an all time great but he lacked the fundamentals of a Floyd or a Loma, I feel those guys are underestimated compared to Roy, and Jones`s wins over Hopkins and Toney are way overrated, apart from those two and his losses Roy never proved himself against elite fighters.

Not satisfied with the selection of judges by the Florida State Athletic Commission, the WBC appointed its own three judges to watch the fights. They lurked a few rows back of the ring. Though the Florida board was recognized as the official scorers Friday night, the WBC judges sat in reserve, perhaps to reverse a decision. Boxing types ringside said they had never seen anything like it, and that is saying a lot.
