Michael Fielding vs. Santos Saúl Álvarez Barragán & Tevin Farmer vs. Francisco Hernán Fonseca RBR

I would rather we have a good 168 pound champion than Canelo moving up and handpicking Fielding. I am just disappointed. Which happens in boxing. I liked Fielding and thought maybe he had a chance even after the Smith fight.

I made a thread years ago saying Golovkin could move up to 168lbs successfully (contrary to what had then been the prevailing opinion here) and stand by that. Now, you note there's a semantic difference there - COULD has a different meaning than IS ALREADY the best (or "among the best") in a division. You realize those are different things, right? You realize that, while conjecture is all well and good, size DOES factor in at some point in this sport, and when somebody has yet to have ever fought over a certain limit there needs to be a cap on certitude of how they would do until we see them a) go up and b) fight someone decent ...right?

Canelo has still not done the latter. Canelo has shown he can knock out a tomato can paper champ at SMW. We still have NO idea what his ceiling at SMW is, as far as opposition quality. None.

 

Anyone knocking Fielding for that tonight is an absolute bellend who clearly has never been involved in boxing beyond the realms of cyber space, total brass neck . Great heart gave everything when most traveling fighters would take the paycheck and stay down earlier.

That said the fight was a farce, complete mismatch and just really a legacy fight for Canelo with the 3rd weight. Cant see him staying long term hes achieved all he needed at 168 tonight.

It is amazing how a guy wins by knockout and thinks he can knock anyone out. Hearns knocked out Duran and thought he could stop Hagler. Although Duran is a legend and Fielding is not, Fielding was a 168 pound champion.

 

As others have posted. His name is Michael Fielding. He loses the nickname Rocky after this performance.
