I KNOW! That’s why Canelo was automatically one of the best in the division. Anyone saying otherwise is being ridiculous.

And yet he still fought for a second tier belt with a rehydration clause........go figure.
Couldn’t give a **** how many PPVs he sells or however much he gets paid, this guy is everything that is wrong in boxing, take your pick from Tainted steaks, bought Judges, home advantage, rehydration clauses and just general A side BS and baffoonery.

Again, the division is dog****. So a pound for pound fighter moving up from the weight division below is obviously one of the best in the division right? Don’t be so stubborn, you must be an AJ hater to have a problem with what was clearly a logical and appropriate statement.

In Las Vegas on Cinco de Mayo weekend, just to make sure Danny Jake doesn't sneak a win!

Nobody's slinging insults at Europeans when they say that, and I think you know that. Or do you really expect me to believe that for as long as you've been on here, you've remained oblivious to such a VERY common bit of vernacular, with a very clear meaning that in no way is meant to be disparaging or "anti-Euro"? Calling someone Euro-level signifies that given their level of talent you could appropriately classify them within a framework of "people with a higher ceiling than simply being in the domestic title rat-race (even in a country with a deep boxing scene like, say, the UK) but well short of being in the world title picture... ie, being of the sort you might see in an EBU title hunt".

That is what that phrase has ALWAYS meant. If you've somehow been dense enough to have been part of an online boxing community for several years and not absorbed that, well... I guess there's no helping some folks.

In other words, your rushing to be a white knight on behalf of Euro boxers and take up arms in defense of their honor is wrongheaded.

Tough means something different to you than me on this one. I mostly agree with you, Rocky went down I think on the very first strong body shot Canelo landed. But he didnt stay down.

Even Rocky getting knocked down on the first hard punch, but getting up he's still tough, as in tougher than nominally 85-90% of the people that post here.

If were talking world class boxing tough (think Hagler, Gatti, Holyfield, R.Lopez), then no, Rocky is not tough.

The sport is dominated by Euros at this point, so the sense that IB used the term is passé.

he has to beat someone other than Fielding to say this. One fight? This reminds me a little of Ray Leonard vs. Lalonde.. Donny gave Ray a fight and knocked him down, but the lack of respect for the title and boxing.

No it ****ing isn't. The phrase refers to a stepped tier system within the sport, of local/regional (intranational)/domestic/greater multinational region/continental/world. Euro has long since become shorthand for "somewhere between domestic and world class".

ie, you could probably beat all the guys fighting each other in a round-robin for the BBBofC/Lonsdale belt, yet could never on your best day hope to capture a WBC, IBF, WBA or even WBO. That puts most fighters squarely in the "could possibly challenge for or win a European title" range. That's what that means. FFS.

Who else is there at super middle? Is everyone comfortable that Callum Smith would easily beat Canelo? Then it’s illogical to say that Canelo isn’t one of the best in the 168 division. If Ward or Calzaghe were fighting at 168 then we couldn’t, but that’s the hypothetical situation. Fact is that Canelo is one of the best at 168 right now, and so is GGG or Jacobs if they moved up.

You've got your panties in quite a bunch over having it pointed out that the times they are a changing' in the boxing world.

You can continue to use the term as if we were in the eighties or nineties... it's just no longer accurately descriptive in the current era, that's all.

Dude, get your head out of your ass. You STILL don't seem to understand - the phrase isn't passing judgment on the richness of the European scene en masse - simply calling a spade a spade and saying the EBU title is somewhere between a domestic title and a world title. Has THAT ceased to be the case, @cuchulain ? Have the times "a-changed" where THAT is concerned? No they haven't, so have a ****ing seat. You just lost this argument, very hard, because you had no idea of what you spoke, and frankly I'm embarrassed on your behalf.
