I've looked this up a million times, never finding anything other than the odd interview where Hagler says it was his mother. But it'd really be good info to know.

My Father SWEARS by the fact that Hagler once confessed to him that it was Mugabi. Anyone here know anything on the subject?

The only fighter that ever hurt Hagler was Tomy Hearns in their epic clash in `85, he shook Hagler in the first round, but then hurt his hand and Marvin`s infighting tore him apart.

BEST PUNCHER Quote from the ring magazine:
John Mugabi and Hearns: Because they came to fight. They came to take my title from me. Mugabi hit me with an uppercut. It didn’t hurt, but it was a hard punch, and I learned something from that. I had to regroup and come up with a different strategy. Also, with Tommy Hearns, he hit me with one good right hand, a good shot. I knew then that was his hardest punch, and I wanted more. I got more aggressive. I realized I had to keep the pressure on him, make him move and make him throw that right hand so he would leave an opening for me.

I have also read Hagler quoted that Midlands Strongman Tony Sibson hit him as hard as anybody.

I agree, either Hearns or Mugabi. I pick Hearns because he was an atomic puncher and the only man I ever saw to wobble Hagler.

He should have picked just one. He sort of put them together. I think Hearns made him react more than I ever saw someone make him react. Too bad Hearns broke his hand, I think had Hearns landed a punch when Marvin was right handed he would have knocked down Marvin.

Pretty sure the KD was actually a slip if that's what you're referring to.

Hearns probably hit him hardest with one shot, but Mugabi was able to land consistently with hard shots, and that uppercut in the 5th or 6th rd hit landed on Hagler possibly stops most middles in history, it was just that brutal.

I'd read that Marvin once said Cyclone Hart's left hook early in his career but him into brief 'la la land'.

I thought he mentioned Juan Roldan as having been the hardest punched he faced.
