I'm starting to see shades of Arbachakov in Naoya Inoue. What a fight that would have been between 2 technically sound power punches.
Bump. People who are on the Lomachenko, Gvozdyk, Usyk bandwagon right now need to know more about the original EE fighter who started it all. If you love watching those 3 then I suggest watching Arbachakov's fights who is a boxing artist.
Amazing little fighter and very fun to watch although I think that hus competition wasn't great, or at least I don't have a real knowledge of how deep his competition was back in the day. Along with Finito and Chocolatito, he was/is my favorite little guy. He was on fire. Kudos to you for a great topic. True!
A super fight would have been Abrachakov vs Too Sharp. I think Johnson was special and would have won, but Yuri was an excellent fighter. Shame he's not in the HOF. Arbachakov was a lot better than Buddy McGirt.
He was a great fighter. The bench back then was deep though. There was talk of him fighting Carbajal and Mark Johnson at the time, I don't think either one would have worked out well for him, though. Maybe Michael, but probably not too much firepower. Johnson was hell on guys his size.
I'd pick Yuri over Carbajal. As for Too Sharp, as controversial as this may sound, I'd pick Too Sharp head-to-head over anyone in history 112 and below... well, Chang might be the lone exception.
Cant argue on Johnson. He was a pint-sized version of Roy Jones in his prime. And Carbajal was not as good, technically as Yuri. but the best fighter doesn't win and Michael had an eraser. He also fought FAR better competition. He KOed Arce in his last fight
I would say a prime Jung-Koo Chang might be the lone exception in beating Johnson 112 and below. And you're right.... Yuri was a better boxer, but Carbajal had the eraser. Excellent matchup.
Yuri Arbachakov was an amazing fighter at the Flyweight Division. He used his skills and power to dominate the small weight class several years. What I heard about him the last time was he resided in Japan and had his own boxing gym there. Get well Champ.
Too Sharp was definitely the most talented fighter in the lower weight class. However, in their primes, I'd have to pick Yuri over Too Sharp. Too Sharp was more of an offensive boxer puncher who can also choose to be a buzzsaw attacker, but he was similar to Meldrick Taylor where he liked to fight on the inside and overwhelm his opponent with speed and let his hands go a little too often rather than stick to boxing. He used Sweet Pea like upper body movement but he was mostly flat footed and he can be hit. I see the fight playing out similar to his fight with Rafael Marquez. Arbachakov was also sharp himself with his punch selection and would be able to time his right hand and possibly KO Too Sharp or win by decision IMO. Would have been an entertaining fight.
