The Boxing Writers Association of America has finalized the ballot for its 2018 awards. The nominees for the Fighter of the Year award are: 1 Oleksandr Usyk 2 Vasiliy Lomachenko 3 Maurice Hooker 4 Mikey Garcia 5 Terence Crawford Who would you choose?
If Warrington beats Frampton then he's in with a shout too considering he whooped Selby already.. Far better than Hookers year! Fury's comeback has to be in with a shout too surely? Loma taking the Ring, WBA & WBO at LW in his first two fights there is impressive, overcoming a shoulder tear & coming off surgery too! Still feeling Usyk tho..
Honorable mentions to Cristofer Rosales and Artem Dalakian. Both guys won their belts on foreign land and made 2 defenses.
Huge fan, great thunderous results this year, underrated by many even those that rank him P4P... but he is nowhere near Usyk's accomplishments this year.
Biased boxing writers of America opinionated veiw of the fighter of the year.... do Stephen Smith and Teddy atlas get a say if they do it’s worthless
There should be one nominee because it shouldn't be up for debate. It is USYK 1000%. Nobody else has faced the top 3 fighters in their division and beat them all in the same year. It is crazy to suggest someone else can win this. Briedis, Gassiev, Bellew. There is no fighter who even comes close to that. Most top fighters face a bum and a world class fighter in a year. He has faced 3 ELITE cruiserweights back-to-back.
Which of their Fighter of the Year awards do you disagree with so badly? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sugar_Ray_Robinson_Award Is their FOTY award controversial at all, really? It's not like they skip over any ATG year to award someone with a relatively mediocre one. At all. They follow consensus.
I would still put Lomachenko's 2018 over Inoue's 2018. Linares takes the cake over McDonnell and Payano... Canelo is the most hated boxer in the sport right now, so he will not get any shout outs though he should clearly be toward the top of the list.
