Come on, you don't need to have the difference explained to you.

Was it the heat that beat you? Or were you perhaps a 300m runner?lol

I ran100m and 200m at school and college, after 200m I was done!

I said in the original post that Maxim headed toward a corner. Read the post again.

I really can't believe that some of you don't understand that PACE is a huge part of championship boxing. This is baffling to me.

    Watched round 13 again:

The official doesn't toll a count, though he does motion for Maxim to go toward a corner. Maybe that's what causes the confusion. Since no punch was landed, I wouldn't have called it a KD....

There's no mention of Maxim backing towards a corner here. You said the referee motioned for Maxim to go towards a corner.

Of course it's a part of championship boxing. I'm not denying that and I said Maxim's win was a legitimate victory but it was also a fortunate one.

In less extreme conditions Robinson would have won that fight comfortably.

Maxim claimed he would have beat him quicker in cooler weather but that HE was the one whose attack was thwarted by the heat.

You don't think that Maxim would have been more active had it been cooler?

Did you further know that Maxim had suffered 3 heat strokes as a child and was extremely worried about this fight as it drew closer?

Robinson was a pretty smart fighter. He tended to coast in fights he had well in hand and just opened up when he needed to. Yet against Maxim he fought probably the least smart fight of his career. He was moving twice as much as Maxim, and he was throwing bombs, a great way to run out of gas before your opponent. He fought that way despite knowing the conditions (it's not like a heatwave hit New York during the fight) and seemed to greatly overestimate his chances of getting the KO. Otherwise why go in there trying to knock the head off a strong and very durable light-heavy who had gone the distance with the heavyweight champion the previous year?

Chances are the hot conditions wouldn't have mattered if he was fighting Fusari, Graziano etc that day, because he would have blasted them out with those punches. But against Maxim they didn't have much effect. Robinson looked spent about halfway into the fight.

Of course he would have been more active. But for Maxim, who was not a big puncher, to suggest that he would have stopped a guy he didn't hurt in 13 rounds and who completed every other bout in his 199 fight, 25 year career and had given him a complete boxing lesson is just laughable.

    I think that's a very good point.

Maybe Robinson felt that given the conditions, his first priority was to go for a knockout but when he saw that wasn't going to happen, he slowed down the pace but by then he had expended far more energy than Maxim.

As Robinson had the additional problem of Maxim's big weight advantage he would been better advised to restrict his movements to conserve energy whilst still outboxing him.
